Comments (1)No different from dividing any other vigorous perennial. If you can knock it out of the pot, just saw it into pieces, cut out the older parts, and repot the newer ones. I find using a saw the easiest way to split it. Repot the fresh divisions in new soil, add some time releash fertilizer and water......See MoreDividing papyrus?
Comments (7)You can plant Cyperus prolifer (a.k.a. C. isocladus) in a shallow pot for looks, if that's what you're after (I love the shallow Asian-theme pots), just don't allow water to come over the crown. Dwarf papyrus should only spread about a foot, so are you wanting to divide because the container is full, or you want to share? You can start new plants by cutting off the tufts at the top (leaving about 1 in. of stem) and floating them in water. They'll root, then you can pot them up. Brenda...See MoreDividing papyrus
Comments (1)Philip, I just take an old steak knife and slice down thru middle of root ball. As to exact timing, anytime in May or June should be fine. I've even chopped a small hunk off in Fall to bring a smaller size pot inside for winter with no ill effects.
