My molly babies aren't growing!

Hello everyone,

I have 4 molly babies that were born January 1. I have them in a 10 gallon tank all by themselves. They still are so very tiny. It's apparent they have grown some but how long does it take before they are full grown? They are itty bitty. What do I do to give them a growth spurt? Is this normal for them to still be this tiny?

What are you feeding your mollys? If you are just feeding crushed flakes then yes they will grow extremely slow. Breeders feed newly hatched brine shrimp.....you should be able to buy eggs at your pet store. If available to you, micro worms, grindal worms and white worms....usually from live cultures that you might be able to get from a member of an aquarium society. Once big enough frozen blood worms and other foods can be introduced. These foods will make them grow fairly quickly.

Now having said that.....sometimes fry don't grow for a reason.....could be water quality...or could be deformities that arn't visible because they are really small.

Its either from not feeding them enough or feeding them foods they cannot utilise, change up there diet some.

Also: whats the temp in the tank like, if its below 75 or above 85 it might slow down growth aswell.

Variegation in Snake plants can be very unstable, causing the plants to revert back to all green (which is genetically stronger). This is VERY common with these plants, such that there's 2 varieties (Lillian True & Bantel's Sensation) which are prized in part because they'll stay variegated rather than revert back to all green. Then again Snake plants (Sansevierias, or Sans. for short) can look very different from juvenile to mature state, & their looks can change as they age.

You pick a GWR by feel. When growing a new GWR variety I wait till it they have some give and are no longer firm. Just like other colors each variety will have a point where they taste the best. After picking a few and trying them at different points of ripeness you will determine where to pick each. Some tend to be better when softer. But I always start out trying a new GWR variety when it has give. You never want to wait till one gets to what I call the mushy point. Hard for me to explain. But after you have picked and ate a few you will be able to tell fairly easy. Most varieties will have some color change. A few don't have much at all. I have grown ARGG. It is a good GWR but doesn't usually do well here. Emerald Green is my favorite GWR. I lost most of my GWR's to the hail. I am growing Cherokee Green Pear. Jay

Thank you! I'm so sorry, I requested an e-mail when I received a response and it didn't show up. It's pretty easy to overload with information on the internet. I will start fertilizing regularly with a liquid. Is there one that you recommend? The container is 4 feet by 8 feet but the four plants are sharing about 2/3 of that space. I could easily give them more space but am afraid that their roots might be interwoven and I would damage them by trying to pull them apart. They are a Baby Boomer Hybrid meant for container growing. they may have reached their full size, then, and just aren't ripening. I'm very new to this although you probably already know that :) What can I do to encourage the fruit to ripen? Thank you very much!!

You know, this is terrible to admit but I joined Flylady 3 months ago and have never opened an email!!!! I know that sounds terrible, but I look around my house and I think "There is soo much stuff in here that I dont know where to start" so I then watch a crafting or cooking show or I get on the pc. I just cant seem to get started!!I too belong to Freecycle. Have never given anything away on there. Have recieved a few items though. We did purge clothes at the begining of summer. Need to do it again though. Did have a yard sale and got rid of alot of stuff but not really enough. Seems as though I need more personal help to get me off my behind. And my husband doesnt help either. As I sit here I look over at the lamp by his chair. There are hats hanging from it even though he has a rather nice hat rack. Pray for me ladies, I really want to get this started!!
