Cub Cadet recalls riding lawnmowers due to fire hazard
Comments (7)Cub Cadet LTX1050 Fire….<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> This is a photo of my 2 year old cub cadet. I need everyone’s help locating any other people that have had this happen to their mower. While mowing I noticed some smoke coming from the engine area and stopped to look. When I raised the cowling, the top, front of the engine was on fire. Before I could get anything to help put it out, all the plastic had caught fire and there was no putting that out. I contacted the Cub Cadet customer support and they were very nice and helpful until I heard this was NOT going to be under warranty. Seems they have never seen such a thing and said it was more than likely a bird nest under the carburetor, near the exhaust pipe. This nest must have caught fire causing a malfunction in the fuel system which then feed gas to the fire. How many birds would build a nest 8” off the ground in a piece of equipment that is used every week? It was also mentioned that I could prove otherwise, so their best guess is a new mower is less than a lawyer (great company policy). What ever happened to helping a customer in a weird circumstance? <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" />...See Morecub cadet 1046 wont start
Comments (1)Are you sure you put the wires on the solenoid correctly? Sounds like you dislodged a wire, since replacing a starter shouldn't have anything to do with the coils....See MoreCub Cadet 1500 series belt issue
Comments (9)The belt and tensioner spring both stretch quite a bit, even though they may look near new. I drilled two new holes for the bolt that holds the outer end of the belt tension spring, about 1" and then 2" further out from the original, following the same "arc" inside the cover mount ridge as the original. Now when I get a new belt, I start in position 1, then two, then three as the belt stretches. I have over 120 hours on the current belt, and used to replace them about every 50 to 60 hours. Having them flap around under-tensioned wears them out quicker, causes them to fly off, and vibrates the dickens out of the mower. Also, be sure the end of the spring that attaches to the tension swing arm is in the correct hole. The spring has a tendency to come off when a belt does, and it may have been put back in the wrong hole....See Morecub cadet 1018 no compression
Comments (25)Update--No bacon this morning but I did pull the valve cover. laying in the valve cover was the exhaust valve shim. It didn't look like the adjuster was backed out or anything else was wrong. I put the shim back on top of the valve stem and adjusted both valves---still no compression. I rotated to TDC and blew compressed air in the spark plug hole. Air came out the muffler. I tried rotating the engine all the way through while putting in air, and air always came out of the exhaust--only out of the intake when it was open. I pulled the head and found the problem--the exhaust valve seat had come out. I figure at the factory they superheat the head and cool the seat to press it in--so why did mine come out--only 2 1/2 years old, not abused, change the oil etc. Anyway I went to the B&S site and looked up the head p/n using my parts manual that came with the cub. That part has been replaced by a newer p/n, along with a different gasket. Think they are having head problems? must be--the new head is out of stock and no backorder date. This seems to be a common theme--putting out products without fully testing or just putting them out as quickly as possible. I have a honda min-tiller that after 2 years of light use, the transmission gears went out. Could not buy a replacement gear, only a new transmission. The transmission was a different part number and the old one was no longer available. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I'm beginning to think that the manufacturers are happy with their design guys if the product will only last a little past the warranty. Thanks for the help fl in alabama...See Morercmoser
