spark plug fell out of engine
Comments (3)zingy, Spark plugs don't just "fall out". Over time, and with previous plug changes, the plug's been (most likely) cross-threaded and the threads are now gone. You can repair the head by REPLACING IT, or using a product called HELI-COIL. HeliCoil is available from most auto parts stores. You ream out the old threads and add "new" threads using this product. Either way....will prevent the plug from coming out again. If the plug WILL TIGHTEN UP....it should NOT come out. If it does...threads are damaged. Comments (3)If it were in a car, I would advise checking all connections for tightness/corrosion. Clicking from a solenoid switch means its working, or trying to. Low voltage at the solenoid causes it to click instead of throwing the juice to the starter. The purpose of the solenoid is to protect the starter motor from low voltage, so it is apparently working. From another angle, it is entirely possible that the engine is temporarily locked up because of rust in the cylinder (more likely if it has an iron cylinder sleeve). This could happen when the engine stops with an open valve and the machine is stored where humidity can get to it. Most manufacturers recommend putting some oil in the cylinder for storage for this reason. Pull the plug as instructed by Bill and apply a penetrating oil to the cylinder. You may have to get under the tractor to turn it over with a wrench. If the piston is stuck and you break it loose, there probably won't be any permanent damage....See MoreEngine will not turn over withspark plugs on
Comments (2)"Engine: 18 HP Twin Cylinder Briggs and Straton" There are multiple B&S engines that fit this description, need model and type number to better answer but IF it is an OHV engine, may need valves adjusted. Comments (3)Typically most gaps are .030" and if a person didn't know- you could probably get away with that. On common exceptions- most Kohler CV singles are .040" and Briggs 12" Inteks have a desire to want to be set at .020" on those w/ hot restart problems. If there is reason to suspect otherwise- best look in the owner's or service manual....See Morekossio95
