Would this pump work for my pond
Comments (5)I have a dense foam surround that came with a previous filter kit that the box only lasted 2 years. so i used this surround, then added those 3m foam scrubbies that you can buy 10 for a $1 at the $1 stores. usually like 3x5 size. or 4x6. if my water gets really dirty i add some quilt batting to the top for a quick fix but take that out after a few days - it gets very dirty - rinse and reuse when needed. the box i just picked one at the dollar store that fit my large 3900 gph pump. 2" off the bottom for the holes sounds fine or 2" worth of holes on the sides sounds good too. i just took a look at adams design - i see he doesn't have holes on the sides at all. i do. make sure you have plenty on top as he shows. if you look at his pictures 5b & 5d you see examples of the nylon scrub pad - i just use smaller ones. i don't use lava rock i think it plugs up to easily - same with the quilt batting. but try different options....See MoreFYI - Electricity cost to run my pond...
Comments (7)I've gotta see if I can figure out mine. That's great you were able to figure it out sheepco! $13 a month ain't bad! DH is always blaming my pond for high elec bills, (they are never even really high..I think he's nuts! lmao!). I only have one mag drive 2000gph pump going. Need a bigger one though, wanna upgrade to 5000gph. Need more umph in that waterfall! I'm gonna show my DH this thread too! thanks!...See MoreDo I need a filter for my pond or is a fountain/pump good enough?
Comments (4)A filter is the easiest and most effective way to keep the pond clear. Floating or stem plants will help but fish do best with a filter especially if it is more than a couple. If you cover the water with floating plants than the water should stay relatively clear and on the good side you do not really see the water that way. once you get a filter going the water should start to clear fairly quickly, couple weeks. If there are no fish or plants than dosing with an algicide will get rid of it for a while, but only if there are no fish plants and read the label to ensure that critters passing thru that take a drink won't be hurt...See MoreElectric for pond pump costs?
Comments (2)Good question orcuttnyc. I have been researching this myself as I'll soon be installing a solar PV system to generate all our household electricity. This is an expensive exercise so reducing our electricity consumption has become a priority. It pays to shop around because wattage varies widely amongst pumps of similar pumping capacity and head. I was looking for a submersible pump that would turnover around 3000GPH at a 1m head. I found that between different makes and models power consumption varied from 100 to over 1000 watts! Where I live that translates to annual running costs of approx $100 - $1000 per year (assuming you run the pump 24/7). I found that amongst submersible pumps, European models such as Oase and Laguna tended to have the lowest running costs....See Morepeacedog
