Large island/banquette seating
Comments (10)I've taken a lot of cr@p for doing what you're wanting to do. My scale is a bit smaller though. See the unusual spot in the island? That's where my banquette will go. A bench against the island seating two with a half circle-ish shaped pedestal table and two chairs. We had a banquette for our kitchen table in the old space and I knew I wanted to work in a kitchen table spot in the new kitchen. I couldn't make a space large enough on the perimeter for a table during our whole house reno so got a crazy burr in my bonnet to inset the banquette in the island. Many here think I'm nuts, and I think one of the reasons I haven't finished the area 14 months later is because I am doubting my vision now. DH works for a restaurant supply company so has a custom booth maker ready to build this for us. I told Marcolo if it didn't work after it was done, I would just never post a pic and would live in shame forever. We'll see.........See MoreBanquette seating against windows (height?)
Comments (6)This is the best picture I have of the back of my house showing all the windows, sorry. The kitchen is the right side of the house in this picture. The bank of windows you see will be made of 2 wider windows instead of 4 skinnier ones. We will be residing the house next year after the kitchen project. (there's no insulation so the whole skin is coming off so we can insulate from the outside, plus the siding isn't in the best shape) The hill under the windows will become a deck area and the grass in the forefront of the picture will be a pool. The view from the kitchen windows will be the garage roof for now, but after the deck is in I hope to add some taller evergreens into the landscaping if possible for shade and a screen for the garage from the house. As far as adding a counter to that wall, I suppose it's possible, but we intend on staying on this house for quite a while....See Morebanquette seating entry room on an enclosed end?
Comments (10)I lost some of my original comment somehow, so ETA this first paragraph: I think it's okay for kids, but tight for adults. We have casters on our table that make it easier to clean and when we had a banquette at our last house it was really handy to be able to roll the table around to get people in/out of the corner. It looks like you're planning a pretty heft table, so maybe casters is something for you to consider as well. *** Is your layout set in stone? I wasn't a part of your previous thread, so I don't know any of the backstory. A pet peeve of mine is when the fridge and dishwasher conflict; in my house everyone wants a drink or snack while I'm putting stuff in the dishwasher. This is how my 7'5"x12'6" kitchen is laid out. Priorities were keeping the fridge out of my work space and no corner cabinets. I debated the dw location, but ultimately, the oven and dw are never open at the same time, so tucked it at the end. Anyway. Just food for thought. You might be able to have a bigger sink if you went this direction......See MoreBanquette seating design help
Comments (15)You are very welcome, Mary. Anne Hathaway's cottage is darling. Here's the link: https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/studio-shamshiri-gives-a-storybook-california-cottage-singular-appeal?fbclid=IwAR0tO8DuHJzvHUY0cH_iUCQrLAmTM5LkLDs--0zsonkRYo-WiBsHsaIEV_w What I like about Anne Hathaway's cottage is that she kept it classic and not overdone. I could just hang there easily. The other pic is just an inspiration as to how a banquette can be embellished. Lately I've been repurposing tall entertainment/tv cabinets, in kitchens as pantries. You can add shelves easily and the depth is great, as it used to hold those clunker TVs of the past. Sometimes you can get them for free on craigslist. Then you can paint them a great color with a coordinating color on the cabinet interior. I fitted one as my bar and it works brilliantly. Again, if you want an update of the floor plan showing the position of the front door and windows in the family room, mark it up and send it over and I'll revise....See MoreJ Lee
