Comments (3)I loved the window boxes I had on the front windows of a home I owned in a 6A climate. They also really helped the resale of the house. They will need to be bare in winter, although I put pine boughs on mine. If I were designing yours i would make the box just a bit wider than the bottom sill, with mitered molding on top, and then angled down sides to a bottom that is the same width as the window sill. People often make window boxes too shallow,, which makes it harder for the plants to get enough room for roots, but also looks flimsy and insubtantial aesthetically. I might look for a way to echo the diamond design of your leaded glass in some subtle fashion, and I would be sure that the box coordinated with the look of the door. If you choose a window box it is better to have very low key plantings in bed below. I had compact azeleas....See MoreCurb appeal / exterior updates for cape cod
Comments (15)Personally, I would not paint your brick. I think it looks very nice. What I would change is as follows: 1. New house numbers. What you have looks cheesy. 2. New light fixture. Something bigger than you have. 3. Personally I would lose the shutters. 4. Paint your front door a vibrant color to stand out against the brick. 5. Landscape with some flowering bushes and get rid of all the depressing green bushes. Re-evaluate at that point to determine if these relatively simple fixes are all you need. Good luck!.....See MoreExterior Update to Tudor style house
