can you put Viking rangetop grill supports in DW?
Comments (2)Thanks for answering Weissman. It's not actually the grill that's spotted and awful looking. It's the grill supports--those long rectangular pieces that act as the surface of the rangetop. The grill supports hold up the cast iron grates and bowls. The spots are in a very visible area. I had a similar whitish bloom on a porcelain bowl that hand-cleaning would not remove. It seemed to go away after putting it in the dishwasher so I'm hoping the same will happen with the grill supports. I suppose if I can't find anything to make it look better then throwing them in the dishwasher couldn't make it any worse, right? Comments (13)I really appreciate your help Annkh, Hollysprings, and Trebuchet :) So, the thread I linked to below clarified a lot for me! The dishwasher isn't installed yet and I wasn't 100% clear on the installation requirements. I learned a few things: a. the dishwasher opening needs to be exactly 23-5/8" wide in order to prevent noise issues b. the dishwasher needs to be installed with no gap between its top and the countertop What that means is - 1. I cannot use the 20x20 L brackets mounted on the back wall because they would cause an unacceptable 1/2" gap on top of the dishwasher (noise issues) 2. I probably should not use cleats on the sides, because that would create gaps beside the dishwasher sides, which could lead to noise issues. That leaves an additional panel on the left hand side (bracketed to the wall/floor) as the only solution that will create an acceptable dishwasher install *and* countertop support. Now I have to evaluate how to deal with the resulting asymmetry (more panel on the left hand side of the dishwasher) and figure out if I still have enough hinge clearance on the left hand side of the fridge. Trebuchet - thank you for the instructions on how to attach a cleat to 5/8" particleboard - that is very useful info that I will use elsewhere in the kitchen install :) Annkh - I have room at the back, not the sides. Hollysprings - bingo with your comment on how gaps will affect dishwasher install. Here is a link that might be useful: Help with noisy Miele Diamond?...See Morecounter support over dishwasher
Comments (4)I use a welded up frame of steel angle iron for granite counters and a ledger on the wall for laminate counters. The steel frame is 1 inch steel angle welded at the corners with drilled and tapped bolts for the floor side for adjustment. I use epoxy to attach the top to the underside of the counter. The side panel can be either held in place with magnets attached to the wood with some silicone (drilled and tapped holes or construction adhesive before the cheap 'super magnets')....See MoreGranite seam over the dishwasher in the template
Comments (6)Hello Kevin, thank you so much for everything you write here, it has certainly helped me to be a more informed consumer. I actually am pretty sure that the seam won't work over the sink. You're right about the placement, but the large piece on the right of the drawing doesn't fit on a slab with either of the other two pieces and the "L"'s on the other two pieces can't be pushed out to make more room for length on the slab. I sat there with him as we tried to configure it another way. As far as I can tell, the only way to get the seam off the DW is to add another seam somewhere. He is willing to do that, but doesn't think it is our best option. I spent quite a bit of time interviewing other granite fabricators and came away with a great deal of respect for this fabricator. It's possible that I trust him too much, but all I have is zero experience and a forum that says that we shouldn't go that way, he has years of experience telling him which is the right approach....See MoreIsaac
