Comments (18)The thing about a mirror is you can cut/shape it just about any way you like, but that amount of flexibility can also bring design confusion over all the available options. Since this is a subjective matter, it can be entertaining to read feedback over matters such as one mirror or two, big or small, lights beside, lights above, both, etc. I would go with whatever makes you feel comfortable. Perhaps the deciding factor is cost, since the price to purchase, cut and install a large wall mirror is more than two smaller sink mirrors, although wood framing costs would be about the same. Regarding lighting, the only other suggestion I would make is to insure there is enough of it. I wouldn't hesitate to install two top sconces or a longer top sconce, or perhaps two longer side sconces. We decided on four vertical wall sconces inset into one wall mirror above the vanity: Here is a link that might be useful: Master bathroom renovation underway......See MoreUpdating Gallery Wall: 1 color or more?
Comments (33)Bird Lover - First I check the marked down banged up sections at Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Home Goods etc. for black ones. It's easy to take take a black sharpie to the dings and cover them up. Then I head to my local IKEA for white or brown ones (I justed started using frames other than black) as well as black ones if I don't have the correct sized black one on hand. Whenever I come across a cheap gallery frame and I have a few extra bucks on hand I buy it and store it. Years of doing this has given me quite an on-hand selection. I used an IKEA poster sized frame for my wedding picture and had Michaels cut a custom mat and frame it for me during one of their sales. The total cost for frame and having Michaels do everything else was $60: Bronwynsmom - Oops! I'm looking to possibly do my LR lampshades in a blue and white pattern. I saw something similar in last months HB where they used a patterned ginger jar lamp and topped it w/ a patterned pleated shade and it looked great. I know that it would be easier to find a solid blue lamp shade but I don't want a blue cast in the room. Thanks TH - always so good to see you around here (she's the inspiration for my black ceiling)!...See MoreGallery Wall using custom oil painting
Comments (15)One way to make a particular piece of art stand out is size. In the mockup below, the painting is the largest of the group. Another way is frames. All have black frames except for the painting. Another is color. the painting is multicolored. All the other items in the grouping all have muted colors. So they essentially look like framed black or white piece of paper. I don't think any of the pieces that you have posted would work because the only possibility is the black and white flower but the black is so bold against the white paper, it stands out too much. Also, I see no problem mixing different media in a gallery wall including poster, prints, photos, original art, etc. Here is an example of three black and white photos along with an original painting....See Moreneed quick diy update for fireplace!
