Contractor dented backsplash...what should I expect?
Comments (9)When I spoke with him today he said it was there when he peeled off the blue film after installing it. He said he noticed it right away. Why he wouldn't have said anything I don't know, b/c the vent hood was then installed over the top edge of it. I REALLY don't think he's right, because when I came home from work the day it was put up I immediately polished up the backsplash, and I would have seen it. I noticed it right off when I got home yesterday. At any rate, not wanting to get into a he said she said argument, I called the place I purchased it from (Newegg.com, great deal) and they will replace it (by some stroke of luck the original box is still in the garage). Hopefully I can cobble together the inside packaging to their satisfaction. When I told the contractor this he hemmed and hawed and said it would be a lot of work to take down and replace, it will require taking down the vent hood and some trim, etc etc....my thought is then why in the heck wouldn't you have asked me about this if you noticed it right away, before putting all that stuff up. I just hope nothing ELSE gets messed up in the process of him replacing it. If so I'll regret not just deciding to live with it. Gosh this is just the most minor kitchen remodel...to think we we were considering building a house. There's no way I have the intestinal fortitude for that....See MoreDo I Need BackSplash? Comments (27)Posted by budgeteer_s (My Page) on Wed, Dec 31, 08 at 18:18 Thanks for all your suggestions. I wanted so much to follow with ci_lantro's suggestion because then I'm done. I'll gladly let you snatch that paint brush out of my hand. ha ha. But at the same time if a little tiling will tie up the project, then I'm game. jodi_socal: I'm a little disappointed when you said fire and ice won't work. I just LOVE that F&I BS. But then agin, I think I know all along it's a little too much for my kitchen. Caryscott & petra: Thanks for the picture petra, it says a thousand words. Is spectralight glass tiles? Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. I will take some pictures and post two HD Behr's paint card to aid in the discussion of color. Thanks again ALL! Correction: My tiles were Alfagres: Gema4x4: different from what caryscott posted: I loved what caryscott linked:...See MoreShould I do a backsplash?
Comments (8)Either, Or. I think both could look nice. I went with a 4" counter backsplash and am very happy with it. Sometimes the tile backsplash can look good and sometimes it looks like an after thought. I know the difference when I see it in a picture, but right now I can't describe the difference. I don't think you can go wrong with a 4" counter backsplash and it would keep things tidy at the sink. I keep a small white microfiber cloth at the faucet to wipe things down after I splash around :) In my area I didn't want the added element of tile. I was going for several large areas of interest and nothing more. I have a bold floor, a bold vanity and contrasting counter. I didn't want another element by using a tile backsplash....See MoreHi, what should I do for a backsplash in my kitchen?
Comments (8)The 2nd pic is closer to what I am looking for. I guess I like a lighter look that is warm, inviting and a little contemporary (frosted glass in upper cabinets, glass & stainless steel range hood). I am not a huge beige fan, so will change the paint colour on the walls, a warm white most likely. I like contrasts and splashes of colour, but need things to be balanced. I have looked at a variety of different Hanstone quartz samples. I like the veins in the quartz and am not a fan of a speckled/dotted or a uniform colour of quartz. The countertop I am currently looking at is the Hanstone Soho quartz. It has a creamy background with pewter and brown veining. For the backsplash, I thought I could bring a little of the floor colour in, but am not sure. I would also carry the backsplash up behind the range vent. I am attaching pics of my kitchen in progress. The cabinet doors are not on yet. Your suggestions for a quartz countertop would be appreciated....See MoreLyn Nielson
