Need advice on modernizing this Tuscan bathroom without re-tiling

This bathroom is very a early 2000s Tuscan vibe - would love to update without retiling if possible? Or do we need re tile?

What style do you like? What is your budget?

The only thing that looks Tuscan to me is the accent tile on the floor. You could paint it and it would be a lot less noticeable. Do you have the accent tiles in the shower as well?

The counter, lights and mirrors are not Tuscan but they are a little generic and boring. Updating them shouldn't be too costly.

If you could share inspiration photos that would be helpful.

I'd get new light fixtures, new mirrors, and new cabinet hardware. Then, add a large white rug that sits from the entry door to the end of the vanity, and paint the room white.

Wow!!! I'm so impressed with all of these ideas - keep them coming! I think each would work, but would make for a very different look - high contrast, traditional, MCM, etc. I shared all of these ideas with my husband and I think we're both leaning towards subway tiles in the shower - either light gray or white - and probably oversized as Nancy in Mich suggested. Each hex pattern is about 6 inches in diameter so they're quite large and we agree a larger subway would balance it out. Any ideas for grout color if we go with white subway? A light gray grout? My husband loves the idea of accenting the shower tile with black or graphite-colored trim and bullnose pieces to tie in the dark accents in the floor tile, so we'll likely do that, as well. Pricklypearcactus, we definitely want frameless glass for the shower but still waiting on our quote... scared to open that email. :) And I think brushed nickel is the winner in the fixture department, though I may throw in a little gold by way of accessories to warm things up a bit. We're still trying to decide between a few things: - Pickled wood, white or dark gray painted vanity and either floating or shaker-style - Solid white or marble-type (quartzite?) countertop - Light gray or gray-blue on the walls, but I think this depends on the other finishes. And jrueter - thanks so much for including photos. That really helped us visualize how the gray subway would look. We'd never even considered anything other than white! Williamsem - I'll be sure to post pictures of the finished product, but you'll have to be patient with us. We're buying everything now, but not installing until after Christmas. :) Thanks again all! I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero.

A 40 inch pathway seems tight to maneuver a rollator or wheelchair in a turn to access the toilet or the shower, but if either your designer or contractor has universal design experience, then perhaps they can make some suggestions about facilitating safe and easy movement in the space.

I would paint the walls the cream color in the granite. Simplify the lighting and mirror frames. Why is there one in the center, along with a magnifying countertop mirror? Another mirror option is to extend them from backsplash to ceiling and join them at the corners. If you choose that, sconces at head height can be wired instead of the overhead fixtures. That entire corner of the bathroom doesn't play well with standard rug sizes. I'd really consider having a remnant cut to fit, bound, and a color that blended with the lightest color of the tile. Take everything off the countertops during a showing.

I think the granite is the culprit; you can find left over pieces stone yards for a new look.

This looks nothing like your bathroom, but work with me. LOL. the floor is a neutral, and everything else is white. Keep your floor tile, paint or replace the offending little accent tile, very carefully. Then find a lighter paint than the floor and go with it. again just a suggestion. Good luck.

Fortunately, style is trending from Modern Farmhouse to Modern Cottage and many of your elements fit right into that trend.

I would consider wallpaper for the wall and changing out the light fixtures. No need to have the light shining up to illuminate an exhaust fan.

Update: New downward lights, new interesting mirrors with frames (or add frames to existing mirrors), new countertop, paint the vanity, new hardware including towel rods, probably new faucets, and new color on the walls. A bigger rug all needed on floor. Coordinate hardware/faucets finish with whatever is in the shower. All predicated on shower being neutral finishes. To raise the bar add glass shower/bath doors. That can be done later when budget allows.

Nothing wrong with cabochons! I wouldn’t touch any hard surfaces. Paint the bathroom white. Get a longer linen shower curtain (or regular curtain and use a liner) and put it up with a rod higher toward the ceiling. I’m thinking new modern black faucets and coordinating door hardware and lights. That’s it. Check out restoration hardware for inspiration.

I tried to find a photo of what’s in my head. This is the closest I could find. They’re focused on the flooring but hopefully you can visualize the floor, wood, white linen, and black combo that would work beautifully in your bathroom. 👌

No need to retile. I think the floor is a very nice neutral. The granite is dating the room. Get a new vanity top, lights, and mirrors. Put on a fresh coat of paint. The place will feel new without touching the tile.
