Remodel of Awkward Master Ensuite Bathroom - Help with Shower&Vanity
Comments (3)Unless I am missing something a townhouse is an attached home and not stacked on top of other homes. It is not generally considered to be a multifamily dwelling - i.e. having multiple units within four exterior walls with shared plumbing stacks. Therefore plumbing lines aren't shared and bathroom and kitchen models are generally constrained in the same way detached homes or semi-attached homes are - i.e. most people for budgetary reasons keep toilets in same place and try to avoid major changes in pipes and drains. FWIW, I am in a high rise condo and converted my tub/shower combo to a larger walk in shower that followed the footprint of the original tub....See MoreSingle sink in master bath?
Comments (43)People buy space. A single sink delivers greater storage and counter space most want. I think this thought is becoming more and more popular now. The duplicate sink thing became common in the 80s-90s when McMansions started popping up everywhere ... but realistic thought /function over looks seems to be seeping back into building. Our master has only had one sink. However the main bath had two. Even raising kids I can't recall a single time when both sinks were in use at the same time. I learned to detest that extra sink every time I had to clean the useless thing. We're the same -- one in the master, two in the hall bath -- and I hate my girls' vanity and -- to use your words -- that useless sink. The worst: One of the faucets broke and needed replacement. Because I wanted them to match, I had to buy two faucets /pay for two installations. And the store only had one of the faucet I actually wanted, so I was forced to buy two higher-priced faucets. Thing is, because we have a ridiculous 14' vanity, we really have to stick we duplicate sinks -- plus the vanity is in excellent condition, and I can't see paying to replace it. My girls loved all those drawers while they were growing up, but they never used the extraneous sink....See MorePlease Critique Ensuite Master Bath Design
Comments (32)Great job ladies! I have been thinking about this all day, especially what you said about liking the old bathroom. I love it, as well except for the down falls I mentioned before -- not a true en suite, lots of wasted space and the issues with the step up. So with that in mind and all of your great ideas, I thought about how to recreate the original spaciousness getting all that we want with the exception of the office space, Also, the ceiling lines are really beautiful so I tried to maintain a square. I decided that I did not care if the closet was in the master bath. I also wanted to move the toilet from the sight line of the entry from the bedroom because I thought it seemed like a big box in the corner. With the shower, I figure it will be all glass so not as intrusive. I tried to get my linen closet, in the one option but it sacrifices large closet space before the bath for two smaller "closets" in the master (2 x 2) . I think it will be fine as we have a huge armoire in the bedroom, we will have the other closet in the master and this is a vacation home. We will likely never have huge amounts of clothing there....at least until retirement. Instead of the closet plus small dresser on the wall with the small window, I included one long dresser as I did not want to block light from the window. Critique away!...See MoreBefore & After Master ensuite in south YYC
Comments (15)Hot Diggety! That is some sexy hardware for the bathtub and shower! I love that you can lay in the tub in either direction (for sunrise or sunset) and get in or out any way you want and you don't have to worry about hitting your head! And the shower hardware looks like it has some serious options I don't even understand that I am sure your husband is thrilled with! What are the tiles in the shower made of? What is the bathroom floor made of? Love the bottoms up window blinds, great idea! Great, great job, congratulations!...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
