Carpet Bound Into Area Rug

I am going to a carpet store to see about having a 9 x 12 piece of carpet bound for an area rug. I have to choose something neurtral because I have two navy and cream pattern chairs and a brown leather couch. I'll attach a photo. Is there any type of carpet that would work best for this project or look better than others? I was thinking a light beige with a texture or pattern. Any ideas including pictures would be appreciated.

You could try a blue or beige rug, maybe even a white one with some texture. Here are a few rugs we have used in various designs of ours:

Provide a photo of the area currently showing the sofa, coffee table & chairs from a different angle. I see no need to have something plain selected for the area rug. There are area rugs that can bridge the gap between your leather sofa and patterned chairs.

I have a low pile Mohawk carpet with a subtle pattern cut to a 9 X 12 area rug in my living room. It is wearing like iron. This is a room we spend a lot of time in. Take some pictures of the room to a carpet store. Look at their remnants first as they will be the least expensive option. If none of them look right, move on to their stock carpet and then to the special order items. Mine was a special order, but not inordinately expensive. Be sure to bring home samples before committing because colors don't look the same at home as they do in showrooms. And as Beverly said, there may also be off the shelf 9 X 12 area rugs that would work. Just because the chairs are patterned doesn't mean the rug also can't have some pattern. If there is a good salesperson at the carpet store they can be a lot of help.

If you want to try a rug you find online, order the smallest size to see the colors in person and be able to return it more easily (for less money - no extra shipping charges) if you don't like it.

I can't imagine the carpet tiles ever laying flat or in place. Why not just pull up the carpet and laying the tile like they were intended?

I don't think Fray Check will be strong enough to do the job. When you vacuum at the edge, you risk snagging a carpet fiber and having it pull. Depending on the type of carpet, the canvas duck border may work. But if the carpet has any sort of 'plushness' to it, it won't hold well with iron on adhesive. If it's a really low pile carpet, you could probably get away with the canvas duck edging and a good fabric glue. I just used some on a project I did and was amazed at how strong that stuff is. But still, don't expect it to hold up forever. As for the sew on binding, it's certainly worth checking to see if they'll do it on your remnant - you may be surprised. But you'd still be paying middleman costs - the carpet seller usually has an agreement with a place to do binding - all parties want a profit. See if you can get to the binder directly. Check you local classified ads for carpet installers - many work independently from carpet stores. That would be the first place I'd check for a lead - ask who does binding.

Bound broadloom instead of area rug??

I had a bound broadloom done too. Get a price for the binding though-- the price varied dramatically, and for a 10 x 10, it was about $100 extra. Some stores were as high as $5 a linear foot for the binding. The nice thing about it is that you can one to your exact measurements, plus if it's less than 12 (or 13') wide, you get the extra, which you can use for a runner or other rug (although you'll have to pay for binding for that too).

the style is functional at our house on this topic. I have a cold kitchen floor and the same in the dining room which is part of the kitchen. We have castor chairs at the table and to roll up to the table, I put an office carpet in gray with the rubber backing which is easy to rollup on off without budging the rug. This is a busy house with 3 sloppy kids and it has seen plenty of abuse and shows nothing. In my cold kitchen I got a $10 indoor- outdoor carpet in gray from menards when they go on sale, and put it down with dbl stick tape. It covers all but about a foot around the edges. This room has a lot of traffic. The tape was a must. The whole family appreciates it even the cats, and the only thing it shows is when my dtr dumped an entire lemon merienge pie upside down on it- and if I'd get my rug shampooer over to this house I'd have that gone. If not $10 and I have a new one!

I would choose a Deep Rich Blue to ground your space.

The trellis frames are a little precious. a lamp on the built in would add interest. something darker to add interest

Great room. You have a good eye. I think your idea of light beige with texture or pattern is spot on. I'd go with a slightly more contemporary pattern to off set the other traditional pieces in the room. The contrast would be great.

IMO a blue rug would be great I agree those trellis pieces are a bit blahmaybe some interesting art then choose a color from it I would not do beige .
