Can someone help me identify this bamboo?
Comments (16)See, thats the "bizarre" part of this. We just purchased this house 2 months ago. The previous owners lived here for about 18 years. Our neighbor planted this in OUR yard (of course it wasn't our yard 15 years ago). Who the heck knows why? I can't even imagine taking one of our indoor potted invasive plants & popping over next door to plant it-lol! The thing is, he's proud of how well it has grown? We'll be putting a fence up in another couple of weeks. So, he'll have to hop the fence to plant the poison oak he's got clippings of:-) May I ask you a question about where to put it? Our house is on a crawl space. I was thinking of putting a clump of it in a shady spot right up against the house & the deck. I'll keep it in check by chopping the rhizomes, as you mentioned. However, if they go under the house (into the crawl) or under the deck, will that be a problem? There is absolutely no light under the crawl & almost completely dark under the deck. Will the plant naturally "not" grow in those areas? I don't want to create a bigger problem. I'm also going to offer the rest up on freecycle or the va board here at gardenweb (free for the digging). Do you think people would want this? Any transplant issues I should know about? Thanks so much....See MoreCould someone identify this plant?
Comments (6)That plant doesn't look too bad at all, perhaps it was a bit short of water for a little while? Just clip off the drooping leaves, and if the soil is too peaty, put it in a more gritty mix but keep the soil moist. These orchids grow by rivers, apparently - think of that kind of gravelly soil, good drainage but damp at the same time.. The main foliage seems healthy enough if those faint specks visible in the photo are not insects. I find these orchids remarkably easy and tolerant; with light but not too much, medium temperatures (mine live and flower in an east window between the curtain and window at night), and the right kind of soil, your plant will be just fine. Portions of stem root easily too, though may take some time to sprout new leaves....See MoreWhat are these plants? Weeds or Flowers? I'm zone 4 Minnesota.
Comments (1)#1 could be your Rudbeckia or an Echinacea. #2 is a weed. Conyza canadensis - Horseweed. #3 can't recall the name but a weed....See MoreI'm breeding new cold-hardy citrus varieties for zone 8
Comments (154)Herman, thanks for the update. It’s great to see fruit already. How large are the Conestoga 026 Segentrange and Poncirus Plus fruit? They look similar to PT…….or are they larger…….photos can be hard to judge. Great to hear 5* Citrumelo has some sweetness. Fruit ripens around Thanksgiving……but the size is clearly larger than PT…….a nice selection. Getting fruit in 3 years is very fast. I gave my brother who lives in Fairfax, VA a seed grown Citrumelo 12 years ago and it still hasn’t bloomed! Keep the updates coming....See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
