Hardware question - what to use on trash pull out - knob or pull?
Comments (7)I used a pull.... and I borrowed another GW-er's idea to use a larger size than on my other drawers. It's 7 or 8" long, so I hang by dish towel on it (right across from the sink). That way dirty/wet hands grab the towel and don't get the pull and cabinet dirty :) It works reeeeaaaaallly well, though I did have to find a knob/pull line that had lots of different sizes. I used Restoration Hardware. FWIW I have knobs on my cabinet doors, and pulls on my drawers. Since the trash is like a big drawer, this made sense to me. And- looks great!...See MoreDo you have any glass knobs and pulls?
Comments (10)I opened your post because I have glass knobs but not in a helpful way. (I mean, where we have them and the kind we have isn't for what you're asking. But I do love them!) BUT, I had to write to say how much I love seeing the picture of your Grace on the sofa! That just says so much about you and what kind of heart you have .... I once had this friend to whom I was kvetching: I'd had a bad day at work and was really frustrated. She replied that I should go out and kick a cat and I'd feel better right away. All of a sudden all my frustration with work was completely turned into anger with her. Was she insane? How on earth would hurting a perfectly innocent creature make me feel better? Seriously, how could that be? (Answer: it couldn't.) Needless to say the relationship was never the same. Grr. Anyway, it just gave me a warm fuzzy to see the picture of your Grace. Thanks!...See MoreRestoration Hardware Pull (Lots of posts on knobs/pulls today!)
Comments (29)Uh-oh. I spent my morning looking for pulls like the first one pictured. I have accidentally bumped into trendy (again!) without meaning to. Our 1936 house came with glass knobs and window pulls that look like the RH stuff and I was hoping to pick something similar for our new kitchen/addition. From what I can see, lots of manufacturers produce similar pulls, usually called window lifts, sash pulls or utility pulls. Some are cheaper coated zinc but the better and more expensive ones are solid brass and can be found plated in different finishes, which varies by manufacturer. You need to try different search terms to find them online because different manufacturers call them different names, but generally they are intended for window hardware, not kitchen cabinets, so if you look at a manufacturer or hardware site under a cabinet hardware subheading they won't show up. So far I have found similar pulls made by Baldwin (solid brass), Samuel Heath (UK), Schlage (solid brass), Croft (UK), Ives, Rocky Mountain, Merit Metal (solid brass), Brass Accents and Deltana (solid brass). One of these may be the actual manufacturer for RH. Some are less expensive than RH, like Schlage and Ives, some are similar, like Baldwin. I don't know why Deltana is so pricey but maybe somebody else can shed light on this company and why it charges more. For the larger sizes, look for what are called cabin door pulls. Merit Metal has some great looking ones, though not cheap. It seems like hardware meant for marine use has to be sturdier, so I have found some great-looking hardware at sites selling to boat and yacht owners (cool lighting for bathrooms, too). I haven't gotten to the glass knob matching yet, so if anybody has done research on those maybe we can start a different thread....See MoreAnyone use unique knobs and pulls on cabinets?
Comments (12)Oh, I love these! I'm going to have to look around for ideas to use in my own build! I'm already planning on fun electrical switch plates in portions of the house -- I've collected a few nice ones over the years, so I've elected to go "dated" (ahem, how I hate that word unless they're referring to something no longer functional for today's needs) and use toggle switches and not the more recent rocker plates. But I don't have any real fancy/fun cabinet or drawer pulls -- but I'd love me some!!!! Thanks for the links....See Morekateskouros
