Fireplace with windows on each side- what would you do in the space?
Comments (12)Definitely some window seats as Virgil says...my initial thought. If you could have them constructed with all wood, and place hinges on the 'seat' you would have storage tooo. That said, they do have alot of nice stools one can buy and purchasing a matching set of rectangular stools in a pretty cushioned covered water color style fabric, or tiny plaid or pattern, might be less expensive and certainly more portable for extra seating in the room if needed. Maybe you could have a pair reupholstered to match any fabric Roman Shades or Valance you might put on your windows even? A painting is fun, but so is a vintage mirror with the silver backing a bit golden and speckled in time, if you can find one the right size...It should probably go to the top of the window frames on each side,-- and with all the rectangles, a round mirror would be nice. If you can't find vintage...you can maybe make one look that way ---or you can focus on the frame and get with a Mother of Pearl frame, and use a bit of real or faux, Mother Of Pearl tiles on your fireplace(if the contractor has variables). The world is your oyster, just what makes your family feel good in such a pretty space. Many options abound. This post will likely draw a ton of good ideas!...See MoreCarpet - one color everywhere, or a different color in each room
Comments (26)We did all the same carpet upstairs as well, @Alison - which includes the small den as you come up stairs and two bedrooms, with a “virtual hallway” (also therefore carpeted as den is adjacent to it without a wall) that runs as a spine with den, guest bath (tiled), and laundry room (tiled) off sides, and bedroom at each end. We also have carpet on our stair treads. Like with the bedrooms, we prefer carpet on stairs for many personal reasons (over hardwood, runners, etc) @shari13 - me too! I got to do that for my childhood bedroom my parents built in basement when I was 11/12 - it was great fun and helped it feel like *my* room :) Especially after having nightmarish carpet in our prior home - the pattern reminded me of skulls! @palimpest - I agree that different carpet can look rather grand where it suits! Your carpet sounds amazing! I hope one day you post photos. We did pay a bit to upgrade ours but sounds no where near as luxurious as yours. I really don’t find carpet to be that much upkeep some portray it as. The choice of carpet matters, and I also don’t wear shoes in house, but I find I have to sweep (or vacuum) a hard floor - and chase dust bunnies, etc - no less often than vacuum carpet (I have a long haired cat and am long hair myself, our long hair don’t care if it falls on carpet or hardwood!) And I’d rather vaccum carpet than sweep to be honest (I will usually vacuum hard floors instead so I still end up vacuuming!)...See MoreReplace pile weatherstripping on vinyl windows with a different type?
Comments (3)Thank you Todd! When you say at the top and bottom, can you be more specific? Sorry this is all very new/confusing. The top of the moving sash is the check rail, right? So you're saying to put it as a secondary weatherstripping? By bottom do you mean put it on the bottom sash facing the room or facing the inside of the window frame? (it's a single hung window)...See MoreWant to paint bedroom doors different colors on each side
Comments (4)Yes, but... You will only see the interior color when the door is closed, as bedroom doors open into the room. So if your family leaves the door open quite often it may not add much to the overall effect....See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
