My two tone kitchen reveal sans backsplash
Comments (28)I haven't been here in a while, I have missed seeing and hearing about all the new kitchens! I thought I would post an update, now that we have lived with our kitchen for over a year. I really love my two tone cabinets, the cherry base cabinets are warm and inviting and the mushroom wall cabinets keep the kitchen from being too dark. After all the angst of the decision, I am so glad I went with the solid wall of cabinets. And I am still in awe of my granite, do not for one single second regret the money spent on it! We ended up doing a stacked beige subway tile for the backsplash, with a herringbone pattern behind the range and I am very happy with my choice. As for appliances, I still love my microwave drawer, I use it every day and the only complaint I have is that the panel doesn't light up well. And I absolutely adore my fridge, love it so much we got the same one for my son! The produce drawer is still my favorite feature, and the ice maker my least favorite. We have never run out of ice, but we are a small family and when we have company, we always use bagged ice. But I can see this being an issue for a larger family without a second fridge with ice maker. I am very happy with my Bosch dishwasher, it does a great job and I've never had the goop issue some were having when I bought mine. The big miss in my kitchen is the range, I should have gone with induction. And I really dislike the surface of my range, it is a pain to keep clean, I miss the ease of my Thermador cooktop. And if I had it to do over again, I would have done drawers in the two base cabinets that don't have them. I still cannot believe how much more organized my kitchen is because of the drawer bases! I had a hard time wrapping my brain around how they would function for me, but after living with my kitchen for a year, I would do an all drawer kitchen in a heartbeat. Overall, I am so grateful to have a kitchen that is both functional and beautiful, and I so appreciate all the advice and encouragement I got from this forum!...See MoreAs good as it gets for now-Finished kitchen minus backsplash
Comments (47)senator13; I loved your kitchen all of it. I have been looking for several years for a way to install an apron front sink in my existing laminate countertops. I'm not talking about the Ikea Djomso sink. I've been looking at the Kohler Dickinson. And I was so excited when I came across yours. How did you ensure that the the laminate edges that butt up against the sink are waterproof? Please share any secrets/tricks that made it possible. Also how is it after this amount of time? I have an extremely busy kitchen in a family of 8. Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing from you....See MoreKitchen progress so far... Ready for back splash ideas.
Comments (20)I agree with the sentiments here -- marble will not go with your counters. Just like the sample you have now, it will be too cool next to your gorgeous creamy counters. I would try to find a solid color tile (glass tile might be best) that pulls out a light cream color from your quartzite. I would focus on getting the color right instead of the shape -- as long as you choose a grout color very close to the tile color it shouldn't be too busy. Then I would run that tile everywhere there is drywall starting from where the far right top cabinet ends to the full back wall and on to the small backsplash areas on the left side....See MoreSea Pearl quartzite...search for kitchen backsplash tile...again
Comments (8)Lovely! I was going to put blue gray tiles on it before the fabricator made his changes. My original slab was gray, but the one he substituted it with sometimes has a yellowish green color. I don't know if he put a sealer on it that changed the color or not. Now, I have found out that I was supposed to have steel wall studs and no drywall behind my Bluestar rangetop according to another post. I have never heard of NOT using drywall behind a stove. The Bluestar has been installed 6 or 7 years and it was never mentioned then. Plus I have a gap behind my vent hood that was never sealed. So backsplash will be put off again until I figure out what to do. I wish the people that installed my BS and vent hood had known what they were doing....See MoreArden Hills Estates
