Honed marble backsplash with soapstone counters
Comments (5)Thanks everyone, my BOS is starting to clear up! I do love the look of charlie 123's kitchen and I think his counters are honed? rmkitchen, coming from you (LUUUUV your gorgeous kitchen), I will take it as a green light to go for it and I promise to post pictures when we are done - hopefully by then I will have figured out how to do that!...See MoreHoned or polished? Question for marble backsplash owners
Comments (1)I'm going through the same decision process with soapstone counters and marble backsplash. I brought home a sample of a polished calacatta board - with mini (1"x1") tiles. It has a a lot of variance in terms of some tiles that are warm and creamy-even golden; others are grey, cool and veiny, etc. Anyway, the lady there told me that she would do polished because if they etched you would never notice it, but you'd still get the "bling" from the polished ones. I'm learning that I personally prefer a mix of shiny and matte in the kitchen (as well as cool and warm tones ) so that's why I'm thinking if I go with soapstone I want something texturally different. Having said that, though, it depends on how shiny you want your soapstone. If it's going to be oiled, I think a honed marble (if that's the direction you're going) would be a beautiful contrast. Have you brought both samples home and compared them against a sample of your soapstone? You might even want to take a few pics and post your options - and have the forum vote. They'll give you their opinion :). Good luck - it sounds like it will be beautiful!...See Morepolished or honed marble for kitchen backsplash?
Comments (7)I think you already have nice contrast with shiny vs matte with the chrome pulls-- my sense is that honed would look better with your quartz countertop. I'm going to do the same thing with a marble hex inset above the range and I prefer the honed finish. You may want to see a sample of each with the countertop to be sure....See MoreBacksplash: basketweave or herringbone over range?
Comments (10)I like the play on pattern when doing a framed area. The key to success in my opinion is to keep the material the same type and color. Then, you can play with shapes inside of that choice. It keeps the backsplash mostly neutral, regardless what color or material you select. Looking at the pictures above, I like all of them. The only one that I don't really like is the floral, framed example. It has a different colored pattern and design from the rest of the background. For me, it illustrates that I like to keep it simple. Because of the lighting limitations, porch over only window, I selected the old reliable glossy, white subway tile. But, I did select a beveled tile. I hoped that the bevel relief would be an expression of texture. I like how it turned out and it served my purpose in reflecting light in an interesting manner....See MoreL C
