Comments (4)mdmomof7, I have leather couches that are about 20 years old - I think they are leather craft or something like that. They were expensive and I had about a choice of 400 colors to choose from. These couches still look nice after years of abuse and teenage pizza parties. I have 10 yo Ikea couches that still look like new. One key is the leather itself - beautiful soft top quality leather is gorgeous but too delicate for family and pet abuse. Look specifically for leather meant to take the abuse. Test the swatch with my Sky test - place water, oil, mustard, ketchup and anything else you have that can stain on the swatch and leave over night to dry. Use a scrubbie to scrub the mess off with out getting the swatch too wet. Take keys, a knive end and fork tines and try to scratch and dig holes in the swatch - if it still looks good after all that, it will live well in your home. I know DC has tons of professional advice and I appreciate his depth of knowledge. I know that our leather is thicker and hasn't stretched much which is why it doesn't look all wrinkled. Our couches have no oily marks or stains which I've seen on some. In addition, look at how the cushions are attached and how easy it is to add new stuffing inserts. I haven't had to add any to my couches, but if I did, it's easy to do. My 20 yo couches have springs in the seats, I don't know how I would add stuffing to them if I needed to - I think I'd need a professional upholstery to deal with them. Like DC, my furniture hasn't worn out, I'm tired of it so the 20 yo stuff is going to a good home with my handy man and the 10 yo stuff is going downstairs while I look for something new. My experience is leather is the easiest for a family and pets. I don't think if my couches were fabric they would look particularly nice - in fact I know they wouldn't. I know you'll love your leather too. Sky...See MoreHancock & Moore leather 'City Sofa' -- I have questions
Comments (44)I need help - I recently purchased 2 HM recliners - it's only been a few months but so far I really like them, though we have had an issue already with the cushions. The cushions we got were not the same ones that the chairs had in the store. But they are replacing them. After months of contemplating purchasing the Journey sofa & bringing home leather samples, all Class 2 (document and cavalier) we finally made the purchase this past Fri. night - bought the Journey Sofa in Cavalier Hunter Green - so excited-put the required 25% down and was told it would be 4 mos till it would be delivered. I was willing to wait that long because this is the sofa and color we really want. Unfortunately, today I got a call from the store and they said the leather I picked can only go on the City Sofa. I can only chose from Document she told me-otherwise if I want the Cavalier it will cost me $$$$$$ - I can't believe I find out after 2 mos of shopping at this store. I feel like it's bait and switch. Does anyone know where I can get the Journey Sofa with the Cavalier Hunter Green without paying out the wazoo!!! This shouldn't be so confusing and misleading. Now i need to stop the transaction and start the whole process over. Up until reading this no one at the store I've been working with ever mentioned this "married" issue of the leater and the sofa's. I'm so disappointed...See MoreHancock & Moore city sofa
Comments (2)Furniture forum is a great site. We had a similar experience to yours. My wife fell in love with our son's power recliner, power sofa, power love seat, and wanted one. So I said okay. After many tryouts, we realized that they are only comfortable when you reclined. Not good for straight seating. We constantly get on and off to take our dog out, the fridge, etc. We wound up with a traditional sofa and ottoman, and chair from Stickley. If I knew about the City Sofa, I probably would have gone that way. I made a good choice, but the City is a winner. Duane Collie often recommends that sofa....See MoreHancock & Moore Vs. Comments (2)Bar01, Both are very good manufacturers, Stickley certainly has an excellent reputation however Hancock & Moore does specialize in leather upholstery whereas Stickley makes all types of upholstery along with casegood pieces. Not sure if you are looking at motion furniture but Hancock & Moore does also specialize in motion upholstery....See Morelivingmydreamtoday
