popular roses in germany pre ww2
Comments (26)Hi Amanda, you have already got some very good advice here, but would you happen to know where in Germany she came from? I have noticed that gardens here are very region specific and some areas will be populated with lots of favorites that might be rare outside. At that time things were grown more locally than they are today, so if she was from the North, Kordes roses would be a good thing to look at but if she was in Bavaria the selection and choices would be different. Similarly if she was in the East or West. Germans have always been rather practical and during that time the older garden roses that were established and known would generally been more likely to be found than a new introduction. Regardless, Frau Karl is a must. She is found generally everywhere and when healthy and in bloom, will take your breath away. Here, the blooms are the perfect creamy white and among the absolute largest that I have seen anywhere. What is also popular? Species roses. They are literally everywhere and there is a dogs rose nearby which they claim has been growing for centuries. What a kind gesture and I do hope you can bring her some joy with this project....See MoreLudwigs Roses
Comments (102)Glad to hear everyone else is as excited about Ludwig's as I am. I live in Phoenix & it is my new favorite place! I'm in every week buying new roses now... I've gotten 12 from them already; South Africa, Mama Africa, Papi Delbard, Arctic Ice, Garden & Home, Pretty Lady, Red Intuition, Spiced Coffee, Anne Lorentz, Rosita Missoni, Fragrant Cloud & Kardinal Kolorscape. Loving everything so far! There are a ton of others I have my eye on. The staff is so friendly & Ludwig's daughter Anja is incredibly helpful! They've been planting all the roses in a garden around the nursery & it's great to see them growing & blooming so beautifully!...See MoreI am looking for a ridiculously obnoxious fluorescent hot pink rose w
Comments (59)Yes Kristine we likely do lol. I was inspired to try Carefree Wonder from those photos on old threads from Pappu. He had a hedge of them. Even though it's a modern rose there is something charming and old fashioned about it. It's been really cool to watch the bloom colors change with each flush. The first few rounds were pale pink and not exciting but they just keep getting more vibrant with each flush....See MoreAttention Rose Lovers Near Tyler, Texas
Comments (23)I will get a photo of it this afternoon. It doesnt look like yours - Junior, the guy who was in charge of sales that day, said it was a "seedling" - maybe one Certified was thinking of introducing but didnt/hasnt. It looks like a small Double Delight - right now, the blooms have faded into a reddish looking color. When it first opened, it was a beautiful lipstick red/white. Bloom size almost looked like a big miniflora and it is covered in blooms. Going outside now, so will get a photo posted soon. Have not seen anything like this one - I am pretty good at identifying most of the time. Junior told me that my Medallion was Oldtimer, but I knew it wasnt that.......wasnt dark enough. It didnt come into full bloom until just a few days ago and all I had to go on was a pale apricot bud. Glad we went when we did - at those prices and with the quality of roses, they will go fast! Think I may call next week and see what they have. Last year, they said they would open back up in September but they never did, so its hard to predict when they will open and how long they will stay open. They had only one Shirley's Bouquet - I bought that one as an unknown at the Nacogdoches Flea Market a few weeks ago for $10 - it is a gorgeous white - if you dont have it, get it! Blooms are the most beautiful white and stay on the bush a long time. My friend got the one Certified had. Since it was named for Shirley Staples, their president, am sure they will have more. Did they happen to say to you how long they would be doing this sale?...See MoreBenT (NorCal 9B Sunset 14)
