Penninsula lighting - would semi-flush mount look weird?
Comments (12)Hi Cathy - Yes, I do believe I have a serious case of PLO. ;) I just had an online chat with the speacialist from Bellacor lighting and she helped me find this - to achieve the same look as that inspiration photo I posted: http://www.bellacor.com/productdetail/trans-globe-lighting-69906-bk-one-light-black-large-onion-outdoor-pendant-home-improvement-398693.htm I really like the nautical flair and the fact it's a bit more unusual than what most people are doing. I do worry that my kitchen will be cookie cutter - white shaker cabinets, stainless, marble subway backslash... I've seen hundreds of kitchens like that already so I think it's in the style details that help make it your own. What is your ceiling height? That is my other obstacle....See MoreHELP!!! Comments (6)I think the ceilings "A" frame is starting to look a bit church'esc but whats happening in the plan above this space... Would it benefit to put secondary floor space above... I know this is a structural change and additional cost but if you'd loose the volume what do you get back in return ?? Any potential cost saving? The wall in the background does it make sense to put an opening there to looks down from the space behind the vault? If the ceiling has no direct portal to the exterior ie no chance for a skylight or exposed beams... then maybe you do lower the vault or flatten it out... both will add cost... But maybe start looking at imagery that will show you the potential of both... A quick 3d study could put your woes to rest with the vault but I know you have to move fast... good luck !! Comments (9)Your on the right track, but it does look weird, an Jan points out, tiling above the window. Another option for the side splash would have been to only extend the tile as far as the upper cabinet. Given the large format of your tile, that wouldn’t necessarily have been the way to go either. The last option I like to call the “tray”. You get a 1-2” sidesplash the same material as your counter. Unlike the “no sidesplash at all” option, this will still protect your cabinets and drywall. Everything looks better when it’s finished, even if you change nothing. I’d pull the tile down above the window and go with the tray. Just FYI, this is what a 2” bs looks like...See MoreWeird Height Fireplace
Comments (21)@Odell Home - $500 seems very reasonable to make that work for you. I had to lower my firebox and redo the whole fireplace for make my TV fit. It cost me $4000, but was worth it for me as the room dictated that was best for TV viewing. Once you find out what the specs are for a safe fireplace, I would look into getting a new stock mantle. I don't think the columns with a thin piece of wood is going to look good. For a few hundred dollars more, I would go to your local building supply store and get a new mantle that will work with your space. You could also just do wood with no columns at all. Good luck....See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
