Curb appeal help please
Comments (15)Hi Melissa c- I like your shutters. If they don't need painting, I would leave them alone and save the money to use on something else. I think the front of the house could be improved by putting something over the front door. I am not sure what, maybe a portico. If it could be something that sticks out a bit to protect from the rain, that would be great. if not, then just something for looks. What color is your front door? If it is wood, then leave it that way. If it is painted red, I might change it. Larger light fixtures might be nice. And big brass house numbers to the left of the front door. I love, love window boxes. Some people hate them. I don't know your climate and the exposure of the front of your house. Before you decide, think about whether you are willing to water the boxes upstairs. With the blue shutters, depending on your tastes, you can choose foliage that is variegated like coleus, tradescantia, plectranthrus and intersperse flowering plants. Or go for something like ornamental cabbage. If window boxes are not you thing, I would really buff up the area in front of your house with some great bushes. I am crazy for things in colors of purple, blue, pink and white, and that attract butterflies and hummingbirds like lilac, buddleia, hydrangea, salvia, passiflora, ipomoea, morning glory, jasmine, nicotiana, foxglove. I would get some solid perennials and supplement with annuals for color and things you can cut and bring in for your vases. Maybe some things you can sow by seed easily like cosmos. Drape a string netting against the bush and sow sweet pea, they grow so easily and smell lovely, and not too strong. If you have lots of money, maybe you can build a little sitting area, maybe even a pergola. Then perfect your sweet tea and muffins because the neighbors will come running....See Morecurb appeal help! front door color etc
Comments (6)I would work on the landscaping. add bigger lights on the sides of the door, i would do brass to match the colonial style. they dont need to be huge, but to scale for your house size. For door color, i would match the shutters or paint the shutters black and do the door in a different color. Also do you face south? if so, i would consider removing the storm door in warm virginia. i had to do that - it was baking and warping my door....See MoreCurb appeal help
Comments (6)I always hate to see a vehicle right in front of a house. Is there any way the vehicle could be pulled to the side of the house, so as not to block the view of the house front door? Also, your comment about adding a small set of stairs to the front door - the current set is too small and temporary looking. The stairs to the door should be large and sturdy enough for two people to use at once and stand side-by-side just outside the door. At LEAST that large....See MoreIncrease Curb Appeal. HELP!
Comments (9)Your house has the challenge of finding the right colour to complement your stone. I'm assuming you're keeping it. My home, and many others in my subdivision, have a stone similar to yours with varied orange tones, and also an area of lighter coloured stucco trim. There are some spectacular colour fails in my neighbourhood where people have tried to match one of the stone colours , or gone a little lighter and ended up with peach coloured stucco, or flesh coloured when it went too pink. Dark gray trims look awful, and some of the browns are too reddish. Our decorator chose a colour called Oxford brown for the dark trims and the garage door, which looks great. Not too orange, but looks good with the orange trim. Brown colours are tricky, because they can go too red, too orange etc. https://icolorpalette.com/color/oxford-brown Our stucco is the original builder colour so I don't know it, but it's very pale and a bit creamy. I'd try to reduce the number of colours that you have showing. For the garage door and entry door, paint the trim the same colour as the door. not a contrasting colour. If you can paint the white window trims in the same colour as the stucco, that would look better. I would split the stucco in half visually by painting the bottom portion a dark brown to blend in with the railing, and paint the garage and entry door the same dark brown. As you can see, my browns are too pink. Use big swatches before you commit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9tTNk10J0E....See Morelisedv
