I need help with basic wiring questions for a kitchen remodel
Comments (7)Thank you. That is basically what I thought. I should be able to remove the wires from the main box and I can cut them back as far as I can. After looking again, it appears as though the disposal is on its own circuit. The dishwasher is on its own circuit. The range is on its own circuit. So, if those breakers are the right amperage for the new units, I can run new wire from the new units to the main box and attach to the old circuit breakers. The refrigerator is not on its own circuit. The old refrigerator would make some lights dim when it kicked on. I am going to terminate those wires inside a junction box with a metal cover plate that can be accessed behind the new refrigerator. Then I am going to put the new refrigerator on the new circuit for the new GFCI outlets in the kitchen. Is that acceptable?...See MoreNovice Remodeler - need help with big kitchen remodel!

Comments (31)Elizabeth, the floors have to go as they look better in photos. In person they scream cheap. It is cheap laminate. I will also have bare spots where the wall will be removed that I have to fix up. I was planning on putting some tile in the kitchen area but may just do hardwood throughout the whole house. I have also heard that the ikea cabinets hold up rather well but it seems that they use quite a bit of MDF with a foil over it. I personally would prefer a wood face as that sees quite a bit of abuse and potential liquid spills (I am just at the beginning with a 3 year old and 1.5 year old)....See MoreI need help choosing backsplash, this? for our new kitchen remodel.
Comments (4)New to this so posting the details of my kitchen backsplash quandry choosing here. The first photo is one where I liked the backsplash posted by Me Agirl on another post of Quentins. Does anyone know the specifics so I can get it in Canada? My situation is that we have Cloud white shaker cabinets, statutario quartz counters, tile flooring with white, beige, grey, coppery patterns, buttery yellow wall colour, dark walnut colour birch island. I wanted to steer away from subway tile but I see that it has a lot of versatility. The backsplash will go behind the range (not in the pic) and along this side counter. Is the backsplash in this photo too small? I don’t like busy patterns, like a warm feel. wanting to go for more modern but not trendy. is this kind of backsplash hard to keep clean?...See MoreAmy
