How do I know if I need to replace my windows?
Comments (11)I presume your present windows are single pane. Any storm windows? As you have been told, the pratice of replacing the material around the mullions is reglazing. If these windows are 4 over 4, or even 8 over 8, the reglazing is a big job. Caulking is done where the window frame sits in the frame both outside and inside. Obviously, you live in a part of the country not noted for mild winters so anything you can do to elivate the drafts should pay some dividends. Now, if I was looking at your home for a possible purchase, my first consideration is how much money will I need to spend to bring this home up to date. However, if you spend (pick a number) to replace windows with double or triple pane vinyl/fiberglass windows, would that cost bring a higher price for your home in relation to the neighborhood?...See MorePainting door with white muntins between layers of glass
Comments (10)All the pictures look ridiculous IMO But looks are subjective I would paint the door and grills the same color to match You could paint them your favorite color on the outside and white on the inside to match the interior trim assuming it is white The one picture I attached has black doors on the inside with white frames next to white doors It also looks ridiculous, also a chair in front of the door, that also looks ridiculous, Lol Also, I like prairie style grills as they don't obstruct the view as much And look sweet I just noticed your post is 7 years old So, they are probably due for a new coat of paint anyway, Lol...See MoreWindow muntins, or no muntins?
Comments (12)@cpartist - Wow, I think we agree on something... I don't think my architect had muntins in mind, because I did not see them on any of his exterior elevations. I feel like the muntins will definitely tip the house towards the prairie style, which I think would cause us to choose a more earthy/older feel for the interior decorating and finishes. Going without the muntins would instead tip the house towards modern, and have a newer, brighter, more sterile feeling interior. My wife and I are the outdoorsy type, we like camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities. We still are drawn to the clean modern look though......See MoreCreative ideas to update wood look windows?
Comments (2)I think white trim around these windows is going to look strange. If you want to try it, try it on the smallest window you have and one that isn't in a public area (like a bedroom or bathroom)....See Moremillworkman
