Ideas for 3-tiered bowl planter?
Comments (8)Wow! thanks frank and jim! Those are some great ideas. The ones I have are the terra cotta look plastic shallow bowls. I don't think there is anything to suspend the bowls, they were just sitting on the dirt in the bowl beneath. I love the hosta fern combo. And those clay pot towers of yours look fantastic. I like the one with a little of everything - especially the trailing lobelia. Great stuff for small space gardening! Thank you again!...See More3 or 4 drawer stacks in bathroom vanities?
Comments (11)One of my pet peeves is drawers that are too shallow! It always seems, even with makeup, that I just need a scooch more room for even the tiniest bottle to stand upright. Since we had our vanity custom made, I had the drawers made exactly the depth I wanted. I measure what I figured would go in each drawer, literally folding and stacking towels, and pulling out the measuring tape...LOL. I did have U-shaped drawers made, and since there would be no drainpipes behind the top drawer, ie just sink, had the U go further back to gain a couple more inches. I have no U in the bottom drawer, but I wish I had specified that it go back another couple of inches too, as DH arranged the plumbing so that it cleared the bottom drawer. U-shaped drawers can be quite expensive if going with cabinet lines, that's why it actually made having them custom made by a cabinet maker an economical choice for us. Vanity was expensive, but it's beautifully made, exactly what we want, not limited by preset increments determined by a catalogue. As Babka said, be clear as to the inside dimensions of the drawer, whether glides will be bottom mount or side mount for instance, and make sure vanity will be kitchen height to gain a couple more inches!...See MoreTwo tiered peninsula -depth of cabinets?
Comments (3)Are you asking for opinions on whether to have a two-tier island or just whether to have shallow cabinets in the back of a two-tier island? Because i'm going to add my opinion that you should do a one-level island rather than two-tier. We had a two-tier island with back-facing cabinets in our previous home (before remodel) (we also had a two-tier peninsula, that I also ditched in favor of one level). I found that the top tier was simply a junk-magnet, so instead of looking at dirty dishes you were looking at piles of other junk. I couldn't wait to get rid of it. I was very happy with the one-level island and peninsula -- much more working room even if you could see some pots and pans. We had a few "back" cabinets even with the one-level -- on the back of the peninsula, backing up to the corner cabinet, we had a 4-drawer stack which opening by the door from the driveway, and we arranged the now-wide island to have a set of drawers facing the sink and dishwasher, another set of drawers facing the cooktop, and a cabinet facing the third side dedicated to a step stool....See Morealabama mommy: inside height needed for two tier insert
Comments (6)the cabinet line I am working with specifies minimum drawer opening of 8-1/2" but I think this is for deeper cutlery inserts than what is shown above. Curious what your thinking is on your cutlery needs as I've been thinking about this lately - trying to decide between a normal cutlery drawer in a top/small drawer, vs. a deeper drawer with a two tier set-up (I don't think what is shown above would be deep enough for me -- in the last house, my silverware was always "stabbing" the frame of the cabinet unless I had everything lying nice and flat... just don't have the time for that!). or option 3: a deeper drawer with vertical cutlery dividers....See Moresch_01
