6th annul billerica spring plant swap, final details
Comments (57)Thank you everyone for coming. It was an experience with the rain, wasn't it? But, yes it was preferable to me to, over the heat and humidity that we've had last year and some other years as well. So much for trusting the weather forecasters to be correct when you need them to be. But, everything turned out well, even with the heavy rain, and we did have the carport to keep going under to get out of it. It was nice meeting you Suzanne, Silvia and Dan and Susan. I'm sure you will all take good care of those new seedlings and plant divisions. Susan, I'm glad you where able to get some of the plants in the ground. It rained here until about 3:30 and after that, the bugs where just horrible. Those foxgloves should bloom for your mother next year. I did get the house plants your brought me potted up today. Oh, Michelle, her husband and daughter did come around 1:30-2pm or so and was just thrilled with all the perennial plants. containers and pots to take home for next years charity plant sale for Children's Hospital. She said to tell everyone "thank you". Now if the ground will just dry up a little bit, and the rain stop for a few days, I can get the rest of my own plants, seedlings and those I got from the swap in the ground. Oh, and the weather really wasn't any better this morning either. It poured her this morning as well. Such is the life of a gardener, and we can't control the weather. At least we all know that we can have a successful swap, with lots of fun, good company and good food, even in the rain. Hope everyone has a wonderful summer, their new plants do well for them and we will plan on another swap here next spring. Love to hear from everyone as to how the plants do this summer. Comments (60)Finally have all the plants labeled, have food made, and I think I'm about ready for the swap! Wound up with a total of 164 plants! Gonna be plenty of most of them for anybody who wants one to get one--or more! And I'm bringing some of my "how to root sedum" sheets along too, so anyone who gets some of my sedums will know how to make more for themselves--and others, when they cut theirs back. NOAA has moderated their forecast and it now looks like we could possibly luck out enough to not be rained on! Fingers crossed for that!!! And while they were showing a temp in the low 50's yesterday yet, they're predicting up to 60 now! Works for me! Hope they're right! Really glad you have somewhere we can "go in" just in case we need it, Bonnie! I'm sticking a couple umbrellas in the car--just in case! I had a little drizzle on and off today, but nothing at all that added up to anything. Bonnie, just to be sure I have enough name badges and numbers, about how many people do you show that are planning to come at this point? I'm counting less than 20, but I know some people have contacted you privately, so if you're showing more than 20 please let me know. I'll be bringing my camera and taking pictures tomorrow, but because I'm so far behind with pics because of my hard drive crash I won't be able to post them anytime soon, so others of you might want to consider bringing a camera along too. For anyone who hasn't been to a swap before, I very much recommend you go to the link Bonnie put in her first post, and you'll find answers to just about anything you may want to know about what we do and how we do it. (Minus the demonstration mentioned in the linked post!) Bonnie, an FYI! If you're good at murdering plants (which I kinda doubt!), you might want to consider going for one of TreeBarb's Maximilian sunflowers, Helianthus maximilianii! Easy care, full sun, low water, 5-6' tall, and it'll eventually start to spread like your Egyptian onions! Wet or dry, I'll see you all tomorrow, Skybird...See MoreWant to Come to a Plant Swap May 3rd~we can also swap mosaics

Comments (40)Likewise!! It was so wonderful actually meeting everyone and thank you SO very much for your generosity! Gardengramma, thank you especially for hosting, and providing such a gloriously beautiful place for us to meet. (You did am amazing job dialing up the weather as well). Since I got there without my leucojeum or redhot poker I'd be open to making one-off arrangements. I had to get the leucojeum right back into the ground but I can dig some more. Some people also mentioned a possible fall meeting? Which of course would be better for leucojeum, peonies, other fall-dormant plants... One other note - I thought I'd be able to tell people this as we traded but it was a little too chaotic -- in our area we have a serious problem with Japanese stilt grass, very invasive in the woods near us. I don't know if it's widespread but I don't want to be responsible for spreading it. I'm pretty sure I did not include any ride-alongs in my trades, BUT, stilt-grass makes a lot of seed. It's incredibly easy to pull up and easy to kill, but if it goes to seed, it makes an awful lot. Don't let anything grassy come up in your transplants......See Morellgarden
