Hottest vinter and spring ever in Europe
Comments (11)Well if this is what global warming looks like I am not complaining... but I think those of you in North America that experienced the coldest spring in 70 years are rolling your eyes when someone mention global warming. It sure is nice to wear shorts and shortsleveed shirts in april and I have already gotten a tan. We only had one blizzard this winter that covered us in a few feet of snow for 5 days and then it thawed ...that was it. I have heard that a lot of roses in Iowa did not make it through the winter this year and that they are still freezing there. Even though they have had temps in the 70s this year already. Like york_rose said it really is strange that the baltic area had the warmest "Winter" ever with hardly any snow. The Climate researchers says that 7 heat record months in a row in our area can not be just a "naural coincidence" but is most likely a taste of what we can expect in the years to come. And Florence : yes I am very happy with my life here in Denmark. And I did see the study you mentioned that we are the happiest, most optimistic people in the world on 5 key areas when it comes to quality of life. The standard of living here is truly amazing, like living in a sweet fairytale country were our cup runneth over ... min. wage is 18 dollars ... and everybody has free healthcare, free college education, the lowest unemployment rate of Europe and no need to fear guns ... But most of all I am happy because I grow roses and like Katja1971 soon can look forward to smelling the roses. Seems like roses with china roses in their parentage are among the first to bloom. My Chinas like Old Blush and Hermosa are covered in buds, but I like roses with strong scent more. and the Scent of La reine Victoria is really something that makes people swoon...See MoreBall Gown Romantica new from Star Roses 2024
Comments (52)Lovely roses! Sorry you lost your Ball Gown, Christian! Never fun when roses never take off then die. I agree with PDXRobertZ8 about marketing photos. Would be nice if they would also show what the flowers look like open. I don't think I've seen an ugly rose bud, but some roses when open aren't so great. Would also be awesome if they would also mention how long the blooms last, even if it can be variable. Alas, I'm off onto wishful thinking lala land now......See MoreMy California Rose Garden 2024
Comments (72)Diane, My hand and arm does serve a second purpose to gauge the size of the roses. Once I saw a sweet looking elderly couple where the husband was taking pics of his wife next to roses. Someone remarked how pretty his wife looked, and the man replied ’I only include her in the pic so I can tell how tall that rosebush is!’ You asked about Golden Zest and Bring Me Sunshine. Both are very young for me I like Golden Zest very much, it is a cheerful strong yellow and the blooms are high quality. BMS has been super thin toothpick stems, I finally see a few tiny buds at the end. Out of my 160 varieites, right now it ranks dead bottom! Hopefully it will improve. I did see AllSass post some nice pics of blooms. Golden Zest Bring Me sunshine so far…I have fuschias that are far more upright! Oh, and Henri is Henri Delbard. The Japanese call him Orange Marmalade, I do like that name! The rose is a stunner....See MoreMy GA Garden Spring 2024
Comments (18)Thank you all so much. It wouldn't have been possible without the support of this amazing community here. It's certainly progress from the time I started out in Spring 2018, looking at an old KO rose left over from the previous owner. Not sure what she thought planting it so close to the tree but it was blah, if not desolate outside at that time. Since then we renovated the front yard, I lined up this front bed along the driveway with Coral Drifts (coming in now), three more roses to the right, and other plants, the rest on the back deck. All in all, it's finally pretty chirpy around here :) Aaaaand I have three more roses on the way. I keep telling myself I must get rid of one to get another, just to keep the number under control, but I can't decide to get rid of any of them because they are all so beautiful and none of them does particularly bad. I snatched out a couple of them last Fall when I suspected RRD and a Drift this Spring for the same reason. The container roses on the deck are doing the best and since this place is quite generous, it could accommodate a few more :) ...Sadly, my time is not (generous). Either way, I am in love with all these beauties and they seem to get better every year. My latest love is Beverly. I bashed her on her first year even knowing she did not get a chance to show what she can do. The few summer blooms were washed out and opened too much, too fast, but now in its second year she is spectacular. When I pas her by, there's a waft of amazing fragrance and she sits so ... HT-proud and upright, in a shrubby form with floribunda-level bloom. I heard people being disappointed in her and I can't fathom why. Either way, one can't be rid of any of these gorgeous things, demanding as they may be....See MorePeter Aberdeen
