Burning Bush Losing All Leaves
Comments (3)It looks like one of the ascomycete fungi in the Erysiphales order which cause powdery mildew. The plant needs good air circulation in an area where humidity is low and sunshine. Clean up all debris surrounding the pot - especially fallen leaves from the plant. Go easier on the N, if you were trying to push growth. If it makes it, some prophylactic treatments with a systemic fungicide is a good idea. Something with Tebuconazole will work well, primarily as a preventive measure, but it may also work as a fixative, if your plant has enough energy to push a new flush of growth and regain some strength before the leaves fall. You can find Tebuconazole over the counter in Bayer Advanced Disease Control for Roses or in their 3-in-1 product for Insect, Disease, and Mite Control. Don't get mixed up and get the 3-in-1 product that has fertilizer as 1 of the 3 ingredients. Al...See MoreBaby Jade losing leaves
Comments (7)Karla MG cactus & succulent mix is not as good as it sounds. If I was to use it, I would sift it (use a kitchen sieve) and only particles that stay in the sieve would be used. They still need to be mixed with some inorganic materials: if you can't get anything else (grit, pumice, turface...) buy at least a bag of perlite (easy to buy & inexpensive). Sift some using same sieve (to get rid of dust & very small particles; you may want to use a mask if sifting lots of it). Mix perlite with sifted C&S soil in 50/50% ratio. Josh grows lots of succulents very well, see what he posted. BTW, where are you located? It is good to post zone/gen.location next to your name (see above), it helps to answer questions. Portulacaria definitely benefits from watering little more often than some other succulents. It will grow well in cooler temps (how 'cold' is it where is it kept?). But 'crappy' soil stays wet for too long, and that's no good in any temps. Rina...See MoreAnyone with personal experience with Ligustrum 'Sunshine"
Comments (20)I'm jumping in a little late to the party, but just saw this... Ligustrum 'Sunshine' was found by a nursery in NC back in 2002. To date, none of the offspring from this one plant has produced flowers. Without flowers, there are obviously no seeds (or pollen for allergy sufferers). Florida's Agriculture Department, which has Ligustrum on their noxious weed list, has reviewed the data and now allows them to be sold there. Under extreme stress we have seen the occasional green branch sport. These have also been propagated and grown out to see what happens. Although more vigorous, they have not produced any flowers either. We do recommend the removal of any branch sports (dark green shoots) that may occur. This is standard for most non green shrubs (especially variegated ones), as usually these sports are more vigorous than the mother plant, and can look odd as they continue to grow. Invasive issues are serious, and we do not promote plants that have demonstrated the potential to become pests. This is one of the reasons we have separate plant lists for our regional programs....See More‘Sunshine’ Ligustrum issues
Comments (12)its been a long time since planting.. but it could be showing some late transplant stress ... but odds are low on that ... its not uncommon.. in harsher climes ... for minor planting or heat stress ... to show in fall or winter .... or in my case.. with ground freeze ... even next spring ... it can be very hard to tell when the problem happened ... or to convince someone... that what you currently see ... happened long ago ... with blinding sun on half the plant.. and the rest in dark shade.. its hard to see your plant ... but from what i can tell... it doesnt look all that bad ... ken...See MoreSam Starratt
