Is it possible to divide young Coreopsis plants?
Comments (4)Thanks for your replies. I took at look at the plants, as much as I could because they are still in sparse bloom, and I don't see any obvious clumps as I do with some of my other perennials. My garden is one year old and I have not divided any plants ever, so I feel a bit intimidated especially considering it is one of my absolute favorites. Perhaps I will need to wait one more year. Thanks again!...See MoreHAVE: Hoya camphorifolia cuttings, Hoya australis plants + more
Comments (12)ha ha Jan I just emailed you about Krimson Queen!!! lol Do you guys want me to do any trade transporting? I am meeting Jan at lunch Thursday and also going to Ricky's so i can take Helen,s. Here's my lil Krimson Queen! The pink edges don't come thru in the photos. Either of you want some of this one. I am sure it's pretty common. It seems so much happier out under the pool screen than in my bedroom window. I got this 1/3 this size a couple yrs ago from Lindaleaf. BTW Helen, You want some cuttings of that coral crown behind the Krimson Queen? It's getting kind of tall and I might as well start a few cuttings of it for Ricky's....See MoreIs it possible to save a large section of hoya?
Comments (3)I know it's hard to know which way to go when you get opposing viewpoints, but I'd say chances are, your cutting will be fine unless where it broke is a very woody stem. I have a feeling, though, that unless it's a slow-growing Hoya (and since you live in a warm climate, I'm betting that it is a viable stem) it shoud root fine Just keep it moist and don't let it get too much sun until it's rooted. It may dump the buds, but the important thing is not to lose a big branch like that. It will reflower when it's ready if it does drop the buds. What kind of Hoya is it, BTW? Comments (11)We have actually done this. The developer of the subdivision planted sycamores on both sides of the street about 10 feet from the curb in the 60's. Ours succumbed to the blight they get and we had it taken down and the stump ground. Of course all the roots were all over the front yard. We have clay soil also. I moved the planting spot in from the street and over from the lot line about 10 feet each way. I bought a willow oak from Home Depot in October of 2001. It was not a big one at all, maybe 10 to 15 feet. Today it is about 55 feet. Be sure to dig the planting hole twice as wide as the root ball, but do not dig it deeper. If you dig it deep and fill in with soft dirt, any water will run past the tree roots and pool at the bottom of the hole. You want the flare to be slightly above ground level. I used those tree rings made out of recycled tires for the first few years, so we didn't have to mow around it. The only problem we had with roots was, as they decayed, mushrooms sprouted where they were. Those are long gone now though....See Moregen_opale
