Will Kohler Stages 33 inch sink work as my only sink?
Comments (3)It looks like the actual sink part of the sink is 19" wide, which is 2" smaller than the sink I have now. I really like the sink I have now- it's a single bowl and much more useful than the double bowl sink I used to have. However I think that what I have now is about the smallest I would be comfortable with for cleaning purposes. The Kohler is a LOT deeper than my current sink, but I think the small bowl size would be an issue cleaning. I'd rather have the whole sink be a bowl and just prep on the counter like I do now....See MoreSink issue; Kohler stages 45 sink question(s)
Comments (11)I was hoping scrappy would join the conversation. I just snapped a pic of mine and you can see it does not splash with the faucet on regular flow. I believe you need to choose the faucets carefully to fit your use, especially if wall mounted. One thing I'd like to mention though is that I would not want to give up the shelf to hand washing. That is my favorite prep area. As I've used my sink for six months now, I've developed patterns; I use the right 3/4's for prep and the area to the left of the drain for dirty/transitional stuff and hand washing. Hand washing is a main reason I went with the Kohler. My DH is not trainable regarding this and it's one of the reasons we chose the stages. I did consider this in the planning stage and have my fridge to the right of the landing counter, the trash and recycle directly below the center of the sink and DW to the left. We considered two faucets but ultimately went with one Kohler Karbon. It reaches all corners and i love that I do not have to hold it. I love it as much as my sink. The shelf is very handy during prep. That's where I open packages, put my prep scraps, actually it changes jobs continually and I have to say it is the most active part of my sink and I would not want hand washing there. I also place my small dish drainer there for cleanup. This is my typical setup except I usually use small colanders on the grate, then slide them under my cutting boards to keep the left clear for hand washing. In your case, I would consider a wall mount Karbon on the shelf side and the Hi-rise on the left....See MoreSink with drainboard (Kohler Stages vs Kallista Multiere)
Comments (7)Perhaps a good question is how people who have the Stages actually use that ledge. I generally keep the heavy walnut cutting board over the ledge, so much of the time I'm not actively using it. However, when I'm cutting a lot of veggies I scoot the cutting board over and place the bowls that come with the sink on the ledge (one at a time), cut the onion, celery, carrot, whatever, and then sweep it into the bowl. The top of the bowl is at a perfect height for getting the veggies to land into the bowl. The square bowl is a help here as the full edge of the bowl is flush with the edge of the cutting board. This also works with meat that needs to be cut up, like beef for stew or cooked chicken for salad. I like that I don't have food bits on the counter top and floor. I especially remember how much I like this set up when I process tomatoes over by the stove. Even using a cutting board with a drip runnel I end up with bits of tomato on the granite and stray splashes on the backsplash hiding to be found another day. The sink as prep is so much nicer, but tomatoes are going in and out of hot water and cold water and that needs to happen next to the stove....See More"Clever" sinks with ledges: Kohler, Ruvati, Galley, etc
Comments (22)@Dino Rachiele are 100% custom built. They are pretty much the gold standard that everybody else is copying. Dino Rachiele developed most of these concepts and is constantly refining them. The upshot is that it isn't cheap to buy one of his sinks, but IMHO it's worth every cent that we paid for ours. It's impressive to notice just how much attention to detail goes into these appliances. Now, I can't comment on what your budget is. That's a decision for you to sort out, and it's not really up for discussion. But if a Rachiele sink is within reach, then I can promise that you'll be very happy with it. After all, you'll probably use it many thousands of times each year. Making it your primary work area and designing it for serious usability is going to be something you'll enjoy every day you are in your kitchen. I recommend reading the background information on the Rachiele website. It goes into a lot of detail what makes a good sink and why....See Morekawerkamp
