What are your most disease resistant Teas?
Comments (11)Patrick, I'm in VA and experience very hot, very humid summers. I've been trying MANY different varieties of Teas and China roses, and I grow them all totally no spray. I can't comment on size of the bushes because my roses are still so young, and, in their first spring after their first winter in my garden, they got severely set back from that peculiar Easter freeze. Just now are most of them really starting to show some decent recover. That said, here are somein the more pink range that seem to be doing very well for me: Comtes du Cayla (I LOVE this rose) Maman Cochet Mme. Antoine Mari Mrs. B.R. Cant William R. Smith Jean Bach Sisley Spice Caldwell Pink (polyantha bloom machine) I'm noticing from my master list, that I grow too many yellowish Teas...oh well. Robert...See MorePlease list your most disease resistant roses..
Comments (29)I don't know if Chinas and Noisettes grow as far north as you seem to be, but my Louis Philippe, Ducher, Spice, Champney's Pink Cluster, Old Blush, Prosperity also my Kordes and Drift roses all survived last summer with no BS, no Chili-thrips, and no Canker...which killed off most of my HTs and Modern roses.... I am getting more Drift and Kordes, and also Biltmore roses, to see how resistant they are.....seems the newer roses are being bred better than some of the older ones....sally...See MoreNeed suggestions for a disease resistant, hardy yellow shrub rose
Comments (42)Prairie Harvest is a nice yellow that will die back to the ground and come back vigorously for me every year. No disease, but the thrips love it. In the sun, it will fade to a chalky whitish light yellow. There is a new yellow knockout this year, but I don't know much about it. No, I'm not talking about Carefree Sunshine. Molineau is a nice yellow that nicely survives my Chicago winter with protection. A good bloomer, with nice fragrance Topaz Jewel gets BS and is not as hardy as other Rugosas, but survives in my garden with no protection. Last year, I had to cut it almost to the ground, though. TJ grows at akward angles, so is best to grow in a closely planted group. Perdita is pink in my garden. Not at all yellow for me. RU sells a yellow sport of Tamora called Lovely Child that has worked well in my garden. Here's a pic Julia Child is floppy. Strike it Rich isn't really yellow. Think Cantalope. I grew it this year and really like it. Not much fragrance though. I have grown Livin Easy and like it a lot, so Easy Going should be a good one. Lemon Spice is my favorite Yellow. I protect it and spray it, so it probably doesn't fit your criteria. But, if you want a non stop bloom machine for cutting and sniffing, Lemon Spice is the answer. Gets kind of tall and lanky. Jude the Obscure is winter hardy for me with minimal protection, but not really yellow. Apricot. Great smeller, though. The only yellow that I have that is disease resistant w/o spraying is Prairie Harvest. Al...See MoreA first: kordes.us has rated this rose its MOST disease resistant
Comments (17)Agreed. As to the scoring, it really isn't anything new, it is just a lamer system since the combined health scores are used. While I would not be surprised if this were a copy writer's error (excellent, exceptional... Whatever...) it appears the 8 stars (combined scores for BS and mildew) earns the "exceptional" rating. There are a number of roses on the Kordes.us site that do not have *any* "rating" included, one or two of which might theoretically earn the "exceptional" assuming that references an 8-star BS + mildew rating. I definitely miss the NewFlora system, adapted from Kordes in Germany. I also note that some of NewFlora's offerings don't appear to be on the new Kordes.us site, so they may be reducing the number of offerings. That would be very unfortunate as the Kordes line brought a lot of very healthy roses into our market. Does anyone know if Chris, formerly of Newflora, is still involved with the evaluations and distribution of Kordes.us? Does she still frequent this forum?...See MoreSCMG
