Butter Bell?
Comments (26)Don't yuck my yum. Another person can use agave syrup to their hearts content but I don't care for the stuff. I even know some people who don't like butter, like my own mother, although I find that strangely suspect, LOL. So, I'll stick with my butter, my olive oil, my cane sugar (refined or otherwise) and hope that my grass fed beef and organic vegetables will balance it all out. islay, I've used those spreadable butters and find them acceptable, although now scientists are finding that butter isn't actually as unhealthy as once thought. There are various kinds here, some have canola oil (which I avoid due to the GMOs but anyone else that wants to eat it is OK by me) and some have olive oil. I can't see that it negatively impacts flavor, but the texture is just a tiny bit different. Well of course it's different, it's supposed to be soft, LOL. It's a lot better than that trans-fat laden "margarine", we used to call it "oleo". Of course, I just like butter. (grin) Annie...See MoreWhere's your butter?
Comments (99)Your butter dishes are all so pretty! In full disclosure, here is mine,,the one in back with a cracked cover. You can see why I get acrylic and the like, this butter dish lives in the counter just an oops away from a ceramic tile floor and this thing is lucky to survive at all, if a bit maimed. Once there was a wee black knob on top, too. For DS and his roomies, I saw an OXO one in the link and it has butter bumpers! I like OXO, I might get one for me, too. I have a lovely crystal one for dinner company, so we're not total rubes lol! Someone posted about using a cheese crock for butter...I have one of those, I think I'll try it,,going for a more French farmhouse look. Here is a link that might be useful: OXO butter dish...See Moredifferent types of butter?
Comments (38)Wow..if we weren't on the fast train from Paris to Roscoff would be SO fun to meet you ! This past Summer we rode from Vienna Austria to Nantes, France primarily on the Velo 6. It was a great adventure. I have done long tours in the US but never in Europe and it was my DH's first tour . He is hooked now :) When we finished the trip in Nantes, on Bastille Day, we then took the train to Amsterdam and rode around Holland for 2 1/2 weeks. We visited 6 areas using the train and then cycled for 3-4 days in each area. We had lived there for a year in 1988 so it was great to visit again. We had perfect sunny weather every day but one. Will let you know when we leave the US...will likely be September as we are thinking later is better. What do you think about the coast as far as many things being closed in Aug. ? I know that the French go on vacation then ....we want to visit several of the islands on our way down the coast. Would appreciate any tips for time of year that is best. It was still quite cool mid July in Nantes. Thank you islay. c...See MoreHard Butter In Canada?
Comments (45)< I’m wondering if your butter tastes different, Lars? > I really do not have a way of knowing if my butter tastes different, but I sort of assume that it does. I think that there are a lot of variables that influence the flavor of butter, but despite this, I simply do not care for butter and never have. Growing up on a farm, we had dairy cows, and my sister and I had to churn our own butter, which I hated doing. I refused to eat it as a child. BTW, I am also not a jelly or jam person either, with the one exception that I do like the fig preserves that I make myself. Otherwise, I never eat jelly or jam and do not have any at all on hand. I prefer olive oil to butter and have several olive oils on hand, which have different flavors. I also would rather eat something spicy than something sweet, but I do not like spicy food that is also sweet. I will occasionally put butter on corn, but not always. I like a lot of vegetables just plain, such as squash, zucchini, corn, peas, asparagus, beans etc that most people put butter on. I also do not put salt on these. The exceptions are potatoes and popcorn, and I do like butter and salt on these. I like butter and lemon on artichokes, but not salt....See Moreplllog
