What Size/Color Pillows For Dining Room Chairs?
Hi,
I am struggling with what size and color pillow should be added to my new dining room chairs. They look like they are missing a comfortable pillow. I was thinking light gray to tie in with the gray in the living room? Am I on track with the color? I tried taking the pillows from the sofa to see if the size worked in the dining room chairs. 12x12 looked the best but I needed it to mush more down, not as firm. Thoughts?

Comments (11)I just can't see a 9x12 in there as that would then mean the carpet going into the walkway to our bedroom. I do have a runner there now if the carpet has any kind of pattern to it on the edges, I think that would look off. Since the DR part is basically 10'8" x 10'8", there would only be a foot on each side of the table with the width with a 8X10. That means the back legs of the china cabinet would be off the rug and the front would be on it. Perhaps the same thing with the buffet on one corner. I found an octagonal one that is 7'9" that I was hoping would work. That seemed to work when I pulled out the chairs and sat back down. I guess because you come from the LR into that narrower part of the room, I think the larger the rug is the more croweded it would look, esp. with all the tile that is showing in the LR. BTW, I love my tile, it doesn't show abit of dirt and is easy to damp mop but just wanted to add a little warmth to the room. Thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming. Comments (8)There is no way to know what the buyer wants in terms of the color of chair they would want or the color of seat. One person may want the unpainted wood and so they would never buy a painted chair. Another would be thrilled with a white painted chair. People may have very specific ideas about the fabric on their chair and it is so easy to recover a chair cushion. As mentioned earlier, these types of chairs are selling for such a low price, and with their matching tables. Comments (25)If a small table is good for everyday, there are workarounds for occasional family get-togethers. Reading Sarah Susanka's books may give you some ideas for having your spaces live large. For example, she suggests 2 smallish tables that are the same height, that can be put together for occasional larger dining needs. For large meals we split people up between the kitchen and dining room tables, and the rule is that mid-meal you shuffle places so you have different dining companions for dessert. For holiday meals my MIL used to put tables end-to-end that covered the full length of living-dining room, such that the people on the far side needed to crawl under the table to get there. Obviously that was for the younger more nimble people. The kids loved it and still talk fondly about diving under the table. 12 days agoOkay, now that I know everyone thinks my dining room and living room look awful, when I loved it. Oh well. I did benches because we already had 6 chairs around the island. We didn’t want more chairs, and the chairs would block our view out of the windows. The tables and benches were handmade, and not going anywhere, I love them. I also love the beige chairs I just got. It brightens up the table area, we originally had brown chairs there and it was too dark. I am keeping what I have, I just wanted pillow advice. Maybe I’ll swap some of the sofas ones out for some color, then the pillow for each of the dining room chairs could have some of that color too.
