New Roof Color - Need Help Please!
Comments (36)jterrilynn, thank you SO much for taking the time to do that!!! You really came up with a beauty of a house using ideas I would have never imagined. That is a totally different house for sure! Even though I'm very much attracted to it, I'm not so sure I would be brave enough to make such a drastic change all at once. As someone else noticed, I'm more partial to the pale yellow or tan family. I'm now beginning to think that the architectural shingles aren't meant for my house and that's why the roofs are looking too busy. Every single new roof in my neighborhood is going that way and I guess I was trying to keep up with the new trend and not look like I was taking the cheap way out by sticking with 3-tab, flatter shingles, but I think that's what I need to do. I recall when I had this roof done last time I had asked for architectural shingles and the contractor said it wouldn't look right. All these years I've been disappointed for listening to him because I thought he was just trying to get away with cheaper material, but maybe he was right. As for the door, I already splurged on it a few years ago. Believe it or not, it cost me approximately $2,500 for the door and installation. It has pretty frosted glass with detailed gold etching which can't be seen in this photo because the wreath is covering it. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate putting all these ideas out there for me and I will have to reconsider my whole plan. Good thing I didn't put that signed contract and deposit check in the mail yet!...See MoreRoofs
Comments (1)rinahen: You need to determine the pitch of your roof, as these shingle require a minimum of 2:12 (Page 2 of link). If your roof is less than this, it's time to look at EPDM. Comments (53)I am leaning towards CertainTeed landmark pro Charcoal black because it is grayer it’s softer than miore black although it will look black in the shade and clouds. Miore black has a lot more variation than what I am looking for. This has been a tough one for me as well. I called Certainteed they gave me a bunch of phone numbers of companies who have used Certainteed charcoal and miore Black on residential roofs to get addresses in my area. I drive around to look at these which helped a lot!! They are close in color but the moire black just seems to much in darkness and variation. Charcoal black just enough variation and softer... CertainTeed customer service agrees. I had the higher end Timberline charcoal as 2nd in line. I like it but I am looking for the best quality and I feel I’m getting that with CertainTeed landmark Pro. BTY THE COLORS BETWEEN LANDMARK AND LANDMARK PRO ARE VERY DIFFERENT! So when you read everyone’s comment make sure they are talking about Pro or Regular Landmark. I dodged a bullet after figuring that out!!...See MoreHelp choosing roof color.
Comments (21)What a lovely home! Check out pages 6-9 of this PDF for some good background then see if any lightbulbs go off. https://www.davinciroofscapes.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/color-schemes.pdf Take a drive around a the nicest neighborhood near you and look for a home of the same general color and style as yours, chances are they had help choosing and you may find something that resonates with you. Opinion: Since your home is large, you could benefit from some darker contrast. Brown would go great with your hand rails and really make your door pop. Maybe a couple blue planters at ground level on either side of the front stairs, to tie it together. in the same I can't tell what color your lightpost is, but that's easy to spray paint or powder coat to match. If you live in an area that gets any wind, GAF Timberline HDZ is an excellent product. As to color, different ones are available in different regions. I would say Shakewood would be warm and cozy or Barkwood would be dramatic and elegant. (Teak, mentioned above would be a bold and suitable choice. I get the sense that Driftwood would be a little chaotic for you; it's very nice but has diverse colorations and you seem to like a more tidy style.) You're welcome to try our GAF visualizer by loading your picture here and trying on different colors and patterns. http://www.legacyroofingnw.com/home-visualizer/ Regardless of what you choose, post the After picture so we can enjoy the finished project with you!...See MoreKate Cowers
