Any experience with a Miele or other plumbed-in coffee machine?
Comments (80)Bitter is usually too long of extraction so try reducing your extraction time. Can you adjust the grind & tamp pressure? Generally you want a grind+tamp that results in about 9-12 seconds from initial pressure to espresso first coming out and then 20-25 seconds of pour for a total extraction time of 30-35 seconds. These all vary by bean, roast and batch so if you cannot adjust them then finding a bean & roast that most often results in these might be your only option. Keep in mind that these Miele machines do not maintain the pressures and temperatures of regular espresso machines nor do they use a proper tamped puck so it's difficult/impossible to get a good shot from them. For a semi-automatic a Breville Oracle (regular or touch) is a better option....See Morehome made coffee pods for a Nespresso machine
Comments (3)You can go this route. But, I hate to say it, getting trapped in a system of proprietary pods assumes one does not care about expense, "reusability" or recycling. See the CoffeeGeek forums for additional ideas and feedback......See MoreDo you have a Nespresso machine?
Comments (12)Okay, I did go to coffee geek and several other review sources, and ended up ordering the Nespresso umm... okay, now I can't remember which model it was! One of the more basic ones with the milk thingie separate. I was sort of tip-toeing the idea around DH and he said "What are you waiting for? Just get it!" So I did. There are few things we splurge on so I don't feel too bad about spending extra on coffee. After all, it's my favorite part of every morning :) I found the selection of pods a little confusing and overwhelming, so I ordered a variety so we can figure out which ones we like best. And since this is a decorating forum, I will also point out that I got the titanium color. My kitchen cabinets are cream, so I really was lusting after the cream color, but it wasn't available in the model I wanted. Sigh....See MoreBreville ovens -- smart vs compact? Pros/cons?
Comments (42)All the photos and experience you all so generously provided were a huge help to me. Update: I spent my precious points on the compact and it fits perfectly under my plate rack! However, I did get a laugh this morning when I had to read a book to learn how to make toast! Just wanted to thank everyone on this thread for their input & suggestions. So many things these days offer convenience but turn out to be a PITA and end up in the donation box. It was great to know in advance that I wasn't stumbling into that. Do think I really will enjoy the Breville. (Just a P.S. to anyone doing any shopping at Crate & Barrel for the holidays. I didn't know about this at all. I bought ornaments for Xmas gifts at Crate last year. They offered 10% off that purchase if I took out their credit card, so I did. I didn't buy another thing there until September when we needed a new sofa on sale. I used their card. That purchase gave me 1% points valid for several months. I used those points for this purchase, also on the card, online putting in the coupon code. This was a very nice added value to the sofa purchase. )...See Morededtired
