Are undermount sinks really easier to keep clean?
Comments (5)I would not let "ease of cleaning" be the #1 reason for choosing one over the other. IMO neither is a big deal for cleaning purposes. I even have a drop-in in my kitchen and it's still not a big deal to clean (we just replaced it but have laminate counters and no other choice). We are putting undermount sinks in our bathroom for aesthetic reasons. That would be my number one driving factor in choosing, followed closely by cost (in this case we decided to splurge, but I am not about to replace perfectly fine kitchen counters just to get an undermount sink for example). For us, the extra cost of the undermount sink is $200 per sink cutout (versus just dropping it in) and it's worth it for the look I want. I don't expect it to make my life tremendously easier though....See More18ga vs 16ga Kitchen Undermount sink
Comments (1)The Elkay sink I wanted came in only 19ga. I asked whether this would be an issue,I think on Plumbing, and I was assured that it was a negligible difference from 18ga. 16ga is slightly thicker, no doubt, but if it helps the budget, take the 18ga. In my case, the difference between the 19ga and a similar 16ga was $200, so budget was a factor for me, too. I've been using my undermount 19ga for over a year, and it still looks new (when I polish it). And I wash my Springer Spaniel in it, so it's getting pretty heavy use....See More30 or 32" Sink for remodeled kitchen?
Comments (1)32" in sinks are designed for 36" sink base cabinets. If the cabinet into which you are inserting the sink is 36" or wider, it should work well. In fact, we have put them into 34" cabinets....See MoreIkea 24" Base Kitchen Cabinet Undermount Sink Questions
Comments (5)I hope it's ok to ask a related question here. I have seen Joseph's replies to other posts recommending the HUSH solution, but I don't know enough to be able to explain to my contractor why this can work. I, too, have a 24" IKEA Sektion cabinet and want to install the longest undermount sink possible. Based on what I've read about HUSH, I thought I could select a Kohler undermount with basin length = 22.25". But my contractor said that the flange is still 24" and asked if the flange sits on top of the cabinet and, if so, how that impacts the countertop. I'd be grateful if you can point me in the right direction Joseph! FYI, here is the sink: https://www.build.com/kohler-k-5286-kitchen-sink/s867441?uid=2217519#specifications...See MoreHolly Prout
