losing things in your own house?
Comments (57)One time I had placed all of my heirloom jewelry in a velvet bag and stuffed it into the space down beside a loveseat cushion (you know where you always lose things in your furniture). We were going on vacation, having house sitters and I just wanted to be sure no one would find the jewelry. I don't think I worried as much about the house sitters because I trusted them, but wasn't sure how much they'd actually be home and worried more about burglars. Some time later (I didn't wear the stuff much), as the loveseat was loaded onto the back of someone's truck to be donated, I somehow remembered the jewelry! Whew! Recently, even though I have a specific place where I always take off my earrings, I had taken them off to go to a swim class, so put them in the middle of the wooden steps going up to my bedroom/bath where I keep my jewelry. I knew I'd see them and take them to their "spot" when I went up after swimming to take a shower. These are my favorite 25 year old silver disk earrings with antique beads - I wear them a LOT. When I next went to wear them, they were gone. Nowhere to be found. I looked in every little spot I might have tucked them into but no luck. I was kinda sure they were somewhere, but I'd looked everywhere I could imagine and re-looked probably a dozen times. I'd go to bed thinking about them, where could they be, and wake up thinking about them, where could they be? Then one day, I thought to look in the pocket of one of the robes I sometimes put on at home after showering when I swim. There they were. I'd put on the robe, swooped up the earrings from the step and plopped them in the pocket to take upstairs but forgot to take them out of the pocket. I'm much more deliberate now with where I put them. eta (because my post just wasn't LONG enough lol) I always put my keys in the fridge when I want to remember to take something from the fridge with me when I leave. I used to shop on my lunch hour at work and would put the groceries in the fridge along with my keys, so I'd remember to take the groceries home with me. Until everyone in my office finally had searched for the dummy who left their keys in the refer, did they get used to seeing them there....See MoreWhat innocent thing does your SO do that makes you crazy?
Comments (78)..everything's over-engineered, yes ..hates to ask for help or delegate-yes ..dislikes to part with things, what if they'll be of use one day? even if decides to-I can see how excrutiating is for him ...always late-yes ..has this strange persuasion of how he can do everything, it's just that 24 hours isn't enough,50 would fit him more ..different perception of time and space..he'd make a good austronaut, actually.. ..company coming..I don't want to start. lol. He'll go to get something for the table-will be back in 5 hours..and won't be something, will be three times as much of what's needed. and yes, why you start with the garden when we have company coming? ..doesn't give a damn about his health. But is very preoccupied with mine. but my main worry..he doesn't sleep. Drives me crazy. And I don't think it's innocent btw. Plain dangerous.. Otherwise he's amazing and - I love talking to him. Even him always starting with arguments against, even when we vehemently disagree, even when he says something that I find irritating, and I know he just exaggerates for the fun of it. Even when he insiss I don't need Exilis Ultra..)) Even when he drags me to places, when I don't want to go anywhere, period.. I don't know whether I ever had a closer person in my life. A partner, I mean. So what do I ask already? I don't ask for much. Get home and sleep. Gosh! (would be nice to organize the freaking garage too. lol. He promised..I'm waiting...years go by..) How he puts up with me? He makes it seem easy..I know it's not, but he makes it seem that way. I can tolerate myself much less than he can tolerate me Once I tell him: -listen it's maybe good you're of a different gender..makes one reconcile with lots of stuff.. And he answers:: -well, frankly, if I knew a boy like you- I wouldn't be exactly excited to befriend him either.....See MoreDo you resent being told to do something for your own good?
Comments (35)Career wise, I was nearly always fine with being told what to do. I can think of one major exception when I was told to write up a report from a conference trip I went on with my supervisor. I asked if I could write it from home as at that time I had severe carpal tunnel issues and was told NO, you can't do it from home and take the time out of office to do this (it was mid-90s.). My home computer had an ergonomic keyboard which was not compatible with the work computer workstation. So... yes, I wrote the report up from home anyway and didn't take the time out of my in-office/lab work time. I brought my report in for my supervisor's review. Mind you, he was at the same conference. I wrote up 10-12 meetings I'd been to. On my own time, over a weekend. Because my wrist would not stand me doing that on company time. He changed ONE sentence I'd written, signed the report with his name first, then mine, and sent it off. He didn't write ANYTHING of his own. I had a severe problem with that, and I really wish in retrospect I'd spoken up. But whose word against whose? **** In other circumstances - I do listen to people when they tell me what I should do, but a lot of this depends on the apparent attitude of the person doing the telling. A lot depends also on how well people realize that some requests for "improvement" are in the eye of the beholder, or not, for instance, understanding what depression, anxiety, and those sort of things manifest. Like their way can get you through everything, because it worked for them!...See MoreIt’s a good thing I like the color green…
Comments (28)At least we have a decent weekend lined up....Fri, Sat and Sunday, sunny and warmish (high 60's)!! I live surrounded by woods and not very much direct sun. But there are a lot of shrubs blooming now......the last of the pieris, rhododendrons, doublefile viburnum and choisya are all going strong. Ditto the dogwoods. Just a few early perennials - lupines, species iris and geums. And my collection of Japanese maples in their multicolored spring finery! Heat is definitely still on here as it is firmly in the 40's at night and chilly!!...See Moreeld6161
