Trying to design an open concept kitchen by joining adjacent small dinning area to kitchen. This is a preliminary drawing. Would need some help on appliance placement. Still doesn’t look right for some reason.

If the size of fridge dictates it stay on the side wall as opposed to the long wall on one side of window then i would work on the island… why dont you center it w respect to the rear wall...the sink and faucet will be midpoint of window too....get a stylish faucet.... get pendants / make certain you get a good overhang maybe w curve and i think these gestures will make a difference. You can do 4 across back and stool each end also …...

as far as general appliance placing options.........the typical range placed left of window might allow some counter on far left for safety...and room for hood on wall but no wall cabinet there.......then fridge to right of window obviously......then your secondary wall could be a coffee bar/ bonus zone....microwave there etc. do you have short list of appliances ?? you have a bit of leeway depending on sizes of the units.

big islands define things so details matter when you choose everything / a rendering wont show details quite yet so maybe the lack on paper is your concern.

You're getting permits for the rebuild. Ralk to your building department about getting your permits to include the old unpermitted space. It'll become permitted. You need to post something readable and larger.

Cpartist, the "pantry" on the right is actually an appliance storage area. Our microwave, coffee maker, and other small appliances, plus baking sheets, etc will be housed there. The other pantry on the left will actually function as real pantry area. Any thoughts on which elevation is best? I still wouldn't make it a full sized pantry. And especially not breaking up the counter space. If it were me, I'd rather have three 3 drawer lower cabinets that are each 33" wide for lots of storage. Then I'd do an appliance garage for the smaller appliances. how do you like your 36" drawers? Do they feel too big? In one of our drawings the drawers are 33" and I was concerned it would be too wide to easily function. My drawers are 36", 39" and 42" and are fabulous. I can store so much more in them.

We are paying for steel, the steel beam will protrude 14” and be perpendicular to the removed wall. We are going to attempt (have to open the space to see) to sink some of it but a 14” beam will still protrude some. My living room is open to the space but is also framed with a beam. So the two beams are parallel, unequal and create a weird hallway effect, thus the option for a column. I was thinking a post in the side of the island and a clear open ceiling would be better than a 22 foot long, 14 inch beam bisecting the space. I think I’m hearing that you all think a beam wouldn’t be that obtrusive? (I know I didn’t post the ‘to scale’ design from my KD, it just didn’t seem right to do that to me. I am confident in the aisle allowances)
