UPDATE: When will I get my first eggs?
Comments (14)Well today, I found an old black gentlemen up in the woods, that had about 50 hens and a bunch of roosters just running wild around his place. he sold me two hens and then threw a free one in for good measure. S He was so nice just laughed and laughed at everything i said. you should have seen his set up. had nests made from everything from old cupboards to boards nailed together with sheet metal over them. Some nests were nailed to trees, and they were everywhere. when he caught me up the hens. He used a long piece of metal with a home made hook on the end and caught them by the leg and pulled them upside down, through a little hole in the top of the home made box. and they were screaming!! He used pine straw for nesting. and you could hear the roosters crowing in the woods all around. He said they were mixed game chickens. thats that all he could have because they roosted in the trees to keep them from the coyotes and the fox. OH MY. When I think of how gingerly I handle my flock of three at home. I'm feeding my lettuce and tomatoes, scratch and laying mash and he fed his cracked corn. when I brought them home to my two gigantic roosters and the hen we called baby because she seemed little, (but not compared to these three) LOL Mine are three times as big as these new ones. and they are not mixing. They are just plain wild and keep running into the fence straight on and bouncing back. I think they may either fly out or break their necks. OH MY. This is going to be a real adventure with these new ones. I hope they settle down soon. S The feller said they should mix with my flock fine. but mine are pure breeds and I think they are snobs. Comments (7)I really enjoyed Bailey White's short story. It was especially interesting to me, as Thomasville is not far, just across the FL/GA line. They do still have the rose parade and festival, and there is a municipal park planted with a lot of hybrid teas and a small heritage rose garden. There was so much that was factual, I am wondering if they really did the parade in the old days the way she wrote about it, too. Will have to do further research. Always so interesting reading about roses. I read it last night but didn't have time to post yesterday, so, I can tell you, this is one of those stories that will come back to you at odd moments when you think you've forgotten all about it, and make you smile. Thanks for posting it. Donna...See MoreOT I AM Back an update....on everything and Brian
Comments (13)Welcome back and congrats on the smoke free status. You're just brilliant missus (as we say in Dublin!!). Fair play to you (as we also say in Dublin!!). That's it now, you've fought the battle and you've won. Just be on your guard always for those weak moments and have a plan in place for the moments when you may be tempted. Comments (40)@mtnrdredux_gw Thank you. ha! It took me 72 years, and an illness, to experience hipness for the first time. Even during the 60s, I observed but never partook. A few drops, under the tongue, is all it takes. The whole system has been interesting. You know how you never noticed certain car makes until you start driving the same make? We never noticed the many dispensaries until we had the need. And who knew there are sales and discount coupons! Everything from finding the correct medical professional who helps with the paperwork (pages and pages) to the actual purchase is cash only. No federal banks can be used. The State does accept credit card payment for the actual card. All product has to leave the store in a bag with a big red symbol. Like a target if someone without ’medical’ need wanted to score....See MoreKswl
