It's May 2013! How is your build progressing?
Comments (140)Finally some progess to share! We have our copper roofs on all the dormers and our first coat of stucco is complete. They are starting the stone next week. They have finished hanging the drywall and they are taping and mudding! So excited with how the coffered ceilings turned out as well as some of the other detailed ceilings! Trim should be starting by middle of next week! Of course we are leaving for a little summer holiday up to the lake and couldn't be planned at a worse time! Here's a few pictures! Comments (66)Looks like May has come to a close. We are officially moved in, and the old house (which we refer to as "The Big House"), is all cleaned and keys turned over to new owner. :-) Need I say I'm exhausted!! But we are so very pleased with our new home and the location. Now the job of putting everything away, and getting organized. We gave many rooms of furniture to the new owners of the Big House, but we're still finding it difficult to find a place for everything. Garage is a sea of boxes. On a very positive note, the geothermal system is working great. It was 90 degrees with high humidity here yesterday, but it was cool and comfortable in the house. We have the thermostat set at 70 during the day, and 64 at night. Has no trouble keeping up with these stiffling temps and humidity. The unit is also extremely quiet. The only issue still remaining is our front door. It's a mission style, 8 foot fiberglass door with mission glass. The stain color just seems off to me, and not consistent. I'm suspicious he used regular stain instead of gel stain. I've already had him refinish it once, and I'm reluctant to have him do it again. I've sent a note to the builder that I'm not too happy with the door. At the Big House, we had a stained fiberglass door at our back entrance that was perfect, so I know it can be done. Keeping my fingers crossed the builder comes up with a good solution. Good luck to those of you still under construction....See MoreIt's May, how is your build coming along?
Comments (69)I decided to finally post to this thread even though we're about at the end of our ropes. We're nearly done with the house. Trim guys finished last week. All we really have left is some electrical work, plumbing fixture installation, final coat of paint and the exterior grading, then of course the huge punch list. Mostly though we're just frustrated at the lack of attention we've received from the builder and the constant barrage of shortcuts all the subs are trying to take because they want to be done with the project and the foreman isn't around. We talked with the foreman yesterday and he outright admitted that he has no idea what's going on at our house because he hasn't been there in so long. Every day it's my husband's job to see what's been done wrong and have it addressed. DH has basically been the foreman on this job, so obviously the foreman we're paying doesn't feel like he needs to be there. We're nearing the end and I'm just dreading the battle with them over the final draw on the house. We know they and their subs are going to try to soak us for more money to cover all their mistakes when they were THEIR mistakes, not ours. We feel like we should be getting a discount for doing their jobs for them and I'm sure they're going to try to soak us for every last penny and I'm dreading having this discussion. At this point we just want these people done and out of our house and out of our lives. Hopefully soon. Very, very soon....See MoreIt's May -- How is your build progressing?
Comments (165)Is there a June feed yet? I couldn't find it! We broke ground in the month of May and we are currently in the framing stage. It's going up quickly which is slightly stressing me out because my next two major decisions need to happen now. I've been stressing over making the pantry larger because as framed it feels too small for what we want but that means eliminating the full pocket office and either creating a command center/drop zone/charging station/printing storage somewhere in the mudroom and locker zone or more like a closet but the problem is that the door coming into the house from the garage is kind of in the way. AHHH - and then kitchen cabinets. Why are they SO expensive?! I was hoping to get away from "builder grade" but I don't think we have the budget for 100% wood, to get cabinets to the 10' ceiling and the pantry areas... Husband wants to order cabs through a vendor at costco called allwood but they sell under other brands and don't have awesome reviews and there is noone local to blame when something goes wrong! Ugh...See MoreRenee M
