Here's my rough floor plan for future kitchen space
Comments (7)Euglossa- Thanks for the link. I love looking at fabrics. Marti8a- I know, that inspiration picture is just exactly what I want to achieve. ML- I really like the warm white/soft yellow/french blue...and some purple! Lavender from the garden, maybe, and some iris :) Over on the kitchen forum, many people think I need an island, but they're just too modern for my taste. Yes, they're practical, but you can't move them out of the way, when you need more space. This way, I have a big table for baking cookies with the nieces and nephews, having coffee with my mom, shelling peas, making pies, etc....and I still have the pretty table and chairs for dining. Another plus, the chairs are much easier to sit in, especially for the very young and older family members, than perching on a stool :)...See MoreFinished Quartzite & Wenge kitchen (long) ...Oohlala
Comments (36)Oh wow I love all your spaces. Your kitchen is gorgeous! Whole heartedly agree with the previous poster who said don't "candy up" your space. The materials, textures and awesome view are so beautiful and decorative in their own right and work so well together that I'd skip pendants or any other light fixture. I think they'd be a distraction. At least live with it awhile and enjoy the space and the lighting you have including the natural light. I think a pale sagey green wall color would be beautiful in your kitchen. As for your other rooms I love the look you have. It appears like you get a lot of natural light, and the neutral color of your walls and furniture really makes the textures of your furniture and art pieces pop. It looks like the home of someone who's collected over time and displays pieces with a story rather than "decorated" and everything fits naturally. Yet it still looks comfortable and inviting. I want to go there and touch everything!:>) I can't stop looking at the light over your dining room table. Can you please provide some details and a source for that?...See MoreKitchens of the Future or The Future of Kitchens
Comments (4)I think that the size of the kitchen has some relation to how long one expects to live at a particular address. When I was in my 20s in San Francisco, I moved fairly often and generally had very small kitchens and did not do very much cooking, outside of the work I did in a restaurant. What I did cook back then was fairly simple, but it was also very easy for me to go to a lot of different markets to get ingredients just before making a meal. Now, as I am older, I like to have inventory and not have to shop as often. When I was younger, I liked to shop often. I do not think that the trend has much to do with what generation you are talking about but what age group you are talking about. I was very much like the Millennials when I was the age that they are now. When they get older, they will change as well - otherwise they would stagnate. However, my ex-roommate from San Francisco who visited me last week-end still maintains the lifestyle that we had in our 20s, but he grew up in New York and finds it normal to go to delis every day for food. He still only stocks condiments and beverages in his fridge. He can make tea or coffee, but not much else....See MoreHaving trouble pinning down my future kitchen location and shape!
Comments (9)Welcome! First, have you checked out the "Building A Home" forum? There are quite a few very knowledgeable people there who can help you with the overall design of your future home - they have a lot of insight into what makes a good layout - flow, sight lines, siting the home, etc. These people are architects and other knowledgeable people. I strongly recommend going there first. Building A Home: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/build Then, once you've decided where each room will go and a general layout of each room, come back here for detailed Kitchen design work. (Even they will tell you to come here for the Kitchen!) . In the meantime, we have a Layout Help FAQ that discusses the information that we need from you to help you get the best Kitchen for you and your family. How do I ask for Layout Help and what information should I include? http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2767033/how-do-i-ask-for-layout-help-and-what-information-should-i-include We also have a "New to Kitchens/Read Me" thread that may be useful. It contains a lot of other information, including links to Best Practices/Good Design Guidelines for Kitchens. New to Kitchens? Read Me First! http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4306041/new-to-kitchens-read-me-first . Even if you decide not to use the Building A Home Forum, the Layout Help FAQ and Read Me thread will still help us help you with the Kitchen - including where to put it and what design. Don't lock yourself into just the designs you posted above - there may be other ideas you haven't thought of. So, post a full-floor layout and your answers to the questions in the Layout Help FAQ and we will see what we can do!...See MoreAnnKH
