Shrubs are dying!
Comments (5)oh jared .. they are not shrubs.. they are conifers ... they are not pines .. they are spruce ... mores specifically .. dwarf alberta spruce ... properly called Picea glauca v. albertiana 'Conica' yours have one of two problems... or both ... first you have classic winter burn ... either from winter sun.. or winter wind. .. lightly brush off whatever will fall off .. and if the buds are viable .. they will bud out.. and the damage will disappear ... though sometimes they get so ugly they arent worth keeping.. i wouldnt be surprised if, as you drive around town.. you see the same damage all over ... also.. this plant is subject to spider mites infestations .... link below to google search of such .. very easy to control .. ignore them for a month.. and see how they flush out in spring.. and then determine if you have the bugs .... which can be remedied with the hose ... just blasting them off ... good luck ken PS and if they ever cone.. they will have picea cones.. not pine cones .... Here is a link that might be useful: study spider mites...See More'Fungal' blight on Aristocrat ornamental pear.
Comments (4)I am really happy to see that a company will do the measured 'smaller' dose. Needs to be done more often and would save a lot of mis-use for the less common treatments but still makes them available on a smaller scale. It does bother me that a city recommends this tree for mass plantings. A nearby town did this once not so long ago, and I don't think there is one of them left standing. They also installed some trees with the potential of becoming massive into some fancy ornamental grates, and extremely near to buildings. Looked super for awhile, but the eventual and inevitable 'un-installation' is a major hidden cost. If you are field growing ornamentals, then it would be worth the cost and effort to send off some samples to a diagnostic lab for pathogen confirmation. It's getting harder and more cost prohibitive than it used to be in our state, due to budget cut-backs, but it may save you some time and $. Like said, however, I did see this a bit in my very young plantings this year, but sat on it before any applications of anything and the issue resolved spontaneously....See MoreCool Memorial Day but blooms are open
Comments (13)WOW......Kate! You and I made a 'baby' together....LOL. I was pleased to see your picture of this cross since I kept a few seeds for myself and the seedlings should bloom this summer. It is so very pretty and has a wonderful color. Exactly what I had in mind when making the cross. I am excited to see Come Sail Away since I just acquired mine but not sure if I will see blooms since it already bloomed down south. (Maybe it will rebloom?). I have been away from the forum as my family has had a run of bad luck the past few months.....so many things....husband & grandson were on the motorcycle and were hit by a pickup truck on the highway. Long recovery for hubby (knee was shattered) and he can't work but thank God our grandson had minor injuries. We were also sick from Covid and lost my father-in-law to it. Lost our beloved kitty Kiko to cancer. I have been really busy with taking over all my husband's chores plus all my gardens and getting hundreds of seedlings planted out. I just haven't had time to comment but I am enjoying all your photos! Hoping that once July rolls around and my blooms start up I can join in....See MoreLast blooms and lots of rebloom
