I have a few daylilies that I ordered last fall overwintering in pots in my unheated garage. I gave them a glance a couple of weeks ago and they had the beginnings of new growth just coming up. However all the leaves were absolutely covered with aphids. Big ICK! My outside daylilies are still pretty much dormant. Hard to imagine a scape at this time of the year here. I just know we are due for a couple more hard freezes before it's safe.

Ellie, TD is gorgeous color. Is that what they call rose or is it considered a lavender or polychrome? Still trying to learn all this. Yes, some of those I planted in April are later bloomers, however, they were also medium size fans and the week I planted them our temps dropped down to the 20s plus it was so windy that anything I tried to cover them with just blew off. I think they all got set back by the cold. This week they got lots of 80s weather and rain so it seems to be helping them. I see a little new growth even under all the leaves that yellowed. they all look like they shrunk in size though. On the otherside of the planting season, I just received 2 shipments yesterday that are both badly yellowed. I suspect they sat in a hot truck. Jean, yes, I love spring. I do the same thing. Grab my cup of coffee and head out to see what's new in the garden. It just makes my day go so much better to have that little "me" time. I found a whole bunch of iris scapes today too. I did not expect any this year as again, everything was moved last fall and suffered winter damage. Life is good.

It truly is exciting to anticipate a bloom that has never been seen before. Because of this, I started purchasing seedlings in 2008, the year I got crazy with the DL. Some of them bloomed last year and it was very rewarding. My first seedlings of my own seeds got planted last year: Strawberry Candy x NOID and Coquina Key x Best in Class. I doubt that they will bloom this year because of crowding. I do have a scape from purchased seeds planted in October 2008 (Triple Cherries x Blue Lake). Today, I finished preparing 2 small beds to crowd in about 600 seedlings, most from my crosses from last year. Hopefully, we'll get good ones! Ben
