Have: Peppers , Want: Hot Hot Peppers
Comments (3)i have some freshly harvested seeds from a very hot pepper with heat similar to a Habanero.. but it isn't a C. Chinense. It is Capsicum frutescens, Hawaiian native super-hot. I also have some orange habanero seeds, and a few other pepper varieties I can share. Check my tradelist. :) I would like some Nyagous tomato seeds, or if you don't have those anymore, a SASBE would be ok too....See MoreOn capsaisum and mold
Comments (3)I agree with OG that sticking it in the oven is the best course. You don't want to take a chance and wash the oils off. In the future, I learned the same lesson, you want to wash your crop before drying, using the same solution you use on veggies bought at the farmer's mkt or grocery store. Even doing this, last year several of our strung peps got mold and I think I'll just do oven or dehydrator in the future, as we don't have a good place outside to string and dry, and aesthetically the mold doesn't add value. Comments (40)I believe that is why we are here, to help and to learn, plus just chit-chat. I was the only seed catalog that I had beside my chair. Check out tomatogrowers.com, they only sell tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and tomatillos. They sell small quantities, with a few varieties larger than 30 seed/pkt, but I find their prices of the regular stuff that I sell too expensive. I have 'shopped' over 40 companies over the years, and still find someone new that MIGHT compete for my business. Several seed companies, buy seed in bulk and repackage with their name. I've found some that have forgotten to put 'their' name on the packet. Marla...See MoreCloning my peppers and tomatoes
Comments (9)Tomatoes can be cloned just by taking a cutting and rooting it in water, or damp soil (keep damp). Peppers are a little harder but I did succeed last year in growing the top of a pepper plant that got broken off when it was a young seedling, but rooting that in damp potting mix. If you want to use a rooting hormone, search for an organic one - I never bothered since I don't do cloning except the occasional tomato. As far as selling, you can sell organic produce (not sure about plants) without having certification as long as your gross is less than $5000/yr. I find it easier to just say "sustainably grown" or "natural" - usually leads to a discussion which benefits both parties. Seeds labeled organic are from organically raised plants (obviously not hybrids) and seed-starting must be done in certified facility with OMRI-listed materials, etc. Lots cheaper to just buy OP seeds (though I grow some hybrids too, no GMOs), I use Promix BX (not OMRI b/c of wetting agents), Fafard (OMRI), or any peat-based cheap mix I can find to start b/c personally I don't think a little soap (wetting agent) hurts the seed, and the plants aren't in it that long (2 months or so) before going in the ground, where I do grow without synthetics....See Moreaok27502
