Thermal Fuse and Whirlpool Dryers Repair or Toss
Comments (3)Thanks When he replaced the thermal fuse 6 months ago he also replaced part of the hose, said the new one was better than what we had and we removed the basket on the outside to let more air in. The bend is a soft one, no hard angles. Nothing is being crushed. The main problem seems to be that the hole in the wall for the vent was too low but since we have an old brick house, we do not want to drill another one. As for the temp control, we got an estimate on the part with our prior dryer, something having to do with temp regulation but it would have been about 280 a few years ago to replace the part, just for the part. The fuses then were around 7. Now for this one they are 17 with tax. This is for the part. DH used to replace the fuses and it was simple but it got tedious after a while. Plus the old dryer would break just as I needed something dried and DH was not home. I have a houseful of people so not sure if that makes a difference. I am tempted to get a speed queen or perhaps look into what they have in laundromats. Perhaps just get something that is not a whirlpool. Our old Kenmore/Whirlpool Washer had a plastic part on the bottom where the wash basket sat. It would break once a year. It was simply a design defect. I bought a TL without an agitator from another brand, problem solved! Although I am sure there will be new problems. Maybe the Whirlpool thermal regulator does not work well with my house?!...See MoreT-H1 Tankless Overheat Cut-off fuse
Comments (4)Yes, I called Takagi today. The fuse only cost $19 plus $6 for shipping. They are going to mail me the instruction too. I am going to do it myself. Thanks everyone,...See MoreHow to fuse 220V/!5A device on 220V40A circuit
Comments (22)kensnh, really, if you think it's not safe, I won't do it. However, i do feel obliged to mention that eBay has nothing to do with this - I only referenced someone's EBay auction because the manufacturer's own website doesn't list the specifications and the guy selling the same thing on eBay did. But these devices are not devised by random charlatans on EBay, but rather (in this case) built and sold by Miele, a respected and esteemed appliance manufacturer who I assume wouldn't or couldn't sell unsafe merchandise. I wasn't actually planning to buy this on eBay, but rather directly from Miele or Bosch or their authorized retailers, and if need be have them drive out to my home and install it. The only thing different about my situation than that of a typical buyer is that instead of a 240V/30A outlet near the dryer, I have a 240V/40A outlet about 10 feet away. I thought, maybe, there would be some safe, legal way to use that to power a laundry appliance since it is currently unused. But if not, I can continue to use the more common 120V/15A washer I have now that plugs directly into the nearby outlet. It doesn't heat its own water and draws from the water heater tank, but I can continue to avoid using the washer and the shower at the same time. FWIW, I don't like using extension cords either. I'm very careful with the ones I do have - they're not dangling where they can get tripped on or squashed or have things fall on them. But I *do* tend to believe that if a respected major company sells something, it's probably safe. Not always, obviously....See MoreAt the electrical pole, is there typically a main breaker?
Comments (7)There was no label on any of the panels specifying amperage. Previous owner had a mess dabbling with wires and fuses and had started a fire at the main panel. The panels were painted because there was smoke damage. There are lug type fuses inside. The previous home owner kept blowing fuses when running a bunch of electric heaters so he replaced all the 20 amp fuses with 30 amp fuses and exceeded the amperage rating of the 12g wiring... He must have run additional 12g wiring so there is a ridiculous amount of wires running to who knows where with a plethora of junction boxes in the basement ceiling. There are 180 amps of lug style fuses and three large "pull handle" type main fuses, plus an additional box with 4 lug fuses totaling 100 amps. A fuse blows and random outlets and lights in random rooms turn off. That's what is going to be addressed this summer inside the house... The power lines were just replaced to the house a few years ago. And the underground feed to the panel was replaced also. The previous owner also ran three 12g wires out of the basement wall, through the dirt without conduit, and in to the garage. So that's why i need to get a panel into the garage directly to the main power source. I am wanting to run my power tools that I have not been able to use and would prefer to have a safe source for power. The replacement garage panel is a 125 amp but will only be running 80 or 100 amps worth of breakers and probably will only be drawing maybe a max of 60 amps at once. I do not have a main breaker for this panel, but if I need to purchase one i will do so....See Morebillscha1
