What do you think of either of these coffee tables?
Comments (136)@KL I circled the unfinished portion on the photo. I don't have a finished photo on my phone and I'm not home. I have never tried to sell anything. For half a second I thought about trying to teach people with no artistic experience how to paint faces using oil, wax, a knife, and an outline. I did paint a portrait on Zoom while guiding a friend who was working on the same painting and outline. It was fun! I have given a few paintings away. I think this style table would be easy to market because people could pick any combination of top and legs. Sort of like OshKosh B'gosh clothing for kids. Also, I would only have to flip the legs upside down to make plant holders....See MoreI’m trying to make a decision for the main color of our house.
Comments (2)@Kat V I'm not sure if you are asking for help with a whole house color scheme or if you are thinking you can find one color of off-white that will work in every room. For the latter, I would say you don't have to find one color that will work in every room, even if you choose an off-white. I have one off-white through my downstairs and feel it was a mistake. It looks great in my south facing family room and kitchen with the warm south light on the off-white paint with pale orange undertones, but in my east and north rooms, I get cold blue light most of the day that turns the same orange-undertone paint to mud. For the former, I currently am obsessed with how to develop and execute a whole-house color scheme. I have read many articles that basically say, "here's why they are wonderful" but most give advice I can't really execute. I started a thread for others having the same frustration. If you find any useful articles, please post them. There are several steps on this journey and any article with even one good piece of advice will be valued. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6392803/great-how-to-articles-on-whole-house-color-schemes By the way, I love your bathroom. In the picture, the green isn't overwhelming. I'd love to see a picture of your eggplant sofa. And I like blue too. Sound like you like greens, blues, and purples. Me too. I chose chocolate brown from dark chocolate to the colors in a mug of cocoa with whipped cream on top. I currently am looking for a great off-white with chocolate undertones, including a memory of a hint of purple pink. Also like off-whites with soft blueish grey green undertones. That might be nice with your eggplant sofa?...See MorePainting each bedroom a different color is "out"?
Comments (35)I have renovated numerous historic homes. I am never afraid of color. I was the queen of the red dining room. I have always been of the opinion that the house dictates the decision. My current home is traditional and no amount of grey will make it modern or farmhouse or any version thereof. It's currently SW Creamy except for the dining room which is SW Naval. But, my furnishings have a lot of color, red chippendale sofa and oriental rugs. Your relative/designer wasn't wrong offering her opinion. She isn't a weird hack or any of the other terms being used. Her view simply did not reflect your vision. She does have a point, which I will cover in a moment. Reading your posts, you have three issues. One, developing a color palette. Two, what to do with the amassed furniture of a lifetime. Three, putting all that together in a style that you like. The color palette is pretty easy. You found the colors in the wallpaper. You like them. Not all of us are that fortunate. Use those colors and their cousins as your jumping off point. Use BM white dove lavishly wherever you need light or in open spaces. Use the other colors in areas of better light. Always refer to them when needing to make decisions. The second issue is furniture usage and placement. You can do it yourself or hire a stager to do the basic placement using what you have. That's a designer's job by the hour. Don't worry if the pieces aren't the right color or the upholstery doesn't match. Place them based on usage and need. Do like Bunny Williams, make sure there are enough tables and lamps for drink placement and good light. Hospitality and ease drive the decisions. Everything else will fall into place. Third, I'd paint everything BM White Dove, move in, live with it, and add color as I worked on each room. At the very least, you will have a clean home with fresh paint. Decoration to be added at a later date and as time and budget allows. I'm a believer in living in a space first and staring at it in all times of day and not putting myself under pressure to make hasty decisions....See MoreI’m trying to decide what wall color &rug goes w/ orange velvet couch
Comments (82)Any of the blues are nice with the orange. Your idea for just using a window treatment with the blue is also nice. I like the window shade Paul used, and also look on Etsy; there are some sellers there with really unique items. I think a plum/eggplant color in your space could also be amazing. I think someone further up in the thread showed a room with that color combo. On an unrelated note: Is anyone else having problems with the site? I can pull up discussions but cannot access the comments, and cannot post new comments. I can apparently comment on posts I’ve previously commented on, and read comments on these posts. However, I can do all of this only if I access it through my Houzz “Activity” menu, and only if I am on Desktop mode on my iPhone. (Which all I use of late is an iPhone and I don’t use the Houzz app.) I’ve never had this issue before, so not sure if it’s site related....See Moreker9
