Shaker vs. Slab Door Style
Comments (25)I prefer slab for the same reason. It's easier to clean. I was raised by a mom who was always modern/contemporary. She could immediately point to ANY piece of furniture and tell you how much time would be wasted on dusting/cleaning. Shaker would be as far as it goes and never, ever white in the kitchen lol. I lean toward modern/contemporary. I think that has a lot to do with preferring slab cabinets. However, as an artist and someone tuned into aesthetics with literally EVERYTHING, I think it also depends on the amount of cabinets and whether they will be in an open vs enclosed space. The more ornate, the bigger the space should be I would think. And for a super clean look not only slab fronts but drawers instead of cabinets for which I'm inclined also. Just be sure to have longer, more visible but varied hardware or suffer a sea of white or almond or wood. I'm seeing more kitchens with mostley drawers and am soooo happy. The convenience of pulling out a 4 ft deep drawer to see ALL of my pots and pans at once. Stand back and scan your home as you walk into or face your kitchen and picture what color, and what pattern. I know what I'd do with a big kitchen. I'd split the difference. I'd do a different color and slab front bottoms with lots of drawers and have shaker uppers. Or if I had a flush wall of cabinets that houses a fridge and ovens. If there are a lot of uppers, make sure some have patterned glass to break it up or just open shelves (dusting always)....See MoreOK to mix cabinet door styles?
Comments (18)I agree with lascatx. I have raised panel overlay on my perimeter, which is white, and the same raised panel overlay on my island, which is espresso. A separate section of my perimeter, which comprises the stove alcove and flanking cabinetry, is the same white as the other white cabs, but is full-flush with a bead, and raised panel doors. It all ties in beautifully, IMHO, because the sections all relate to each other. The Danby marble counters are the same, in an effort to pull it all together. Although I have that same slab marble behind the range, the b-splash behind the cabs flanking the range is the same tile as the rest of the b-splash behind the white perimeter cabs. Also pulling it together are glass-fronted double-stacked uppers in both perimeter sections, and the same drawer pulls and cabinet knobs throughout. So, like Lascatx says, "keep it related" and it can be gorgeous....See MoreThe Cabinet Face, custom doors for IKEA cabinets?
Comments (15)I have looked at several options, not at thrilled with any of them. Semihandmade does not offer a lot of choices and the quality is surprisingly poor in my opinion, also bad customer service reviews. Kokeena looks beautiful but seemed very $$$ did not even request samples I mean what's the point? Architectural Digest I am not. Scherr's found website confusing and disorganized, not sure I ever found the doors online and did not really want to! Then somehow I happened upon The Cabinet Face and was, like, FINALLY!!!!!! I am still in the planning phase but if this company is at good as it looks, I will definitely work them. They seem to have several options, but not too many, including wood veneers and glass doors. And best of all (gasp) their pricing structure is refreshingly transparent. This was a welcomed first. It really helps to know when making these decisions roughly what painting versus MDF etc costs; there's even a cost comparison estimate with all styles compared to Ringhult. Again, just enough enough information. I don't want to buy from a company that isn't transparent. What's the point? It should be the quality of one's experience that brings customers back....See MoreI spy a bright white cabinet door at IKEA! Axstad matte white
Comments (62)@tee8 We just got this fridge for the remodel and it’s working great. We wanted the in-door ice and this model has that without making the left hand door feel too bulky. We had a standard depth side-by-side from the 90’s before buying this one. It only stuck out a few more inches but I think it makes the kitchen feel totally different to have everything flush. In the tight U layout, every inch counts. Space-wise I much prefer the top/bottom fridge! I have no idea if we gained or lost cubic foot storage but it feels like everything fits so much better....See MoreLouise
