DUCTLESS vent hood for under cabinet chimney
Comments (2)My first thought - you are crazy to use a ductless. But I read your post and my answer is going to be really easy - don't put a vent hood in. There is a custom house that was for sale next to us when the people couldn't close. I think as a cost saving matter, they had no vent. They had what I'm guess is a mantle type cabinet (I'm not exactly sure what that is but I think I know). You looked up from the range and it was a flat piece of painted drywall. I'm sure they installed a light or two. That gives you power in case you ever want a vent. As an aside, it turns out they roughed the duct in, so I'm thinking that they wanted a nice hood so where going to wait until after closing. This is all in a strict inspection/code town. Forgive me if I get the terms confused but in my mind there is a liner a blower and a hood. I think you already have a planned cabinet hood (mantle type) so you aren't really asking about a hood. It is the liner and blower. I would be surprised if anyone made what you are looking for. There are recirc vent hoods but they wouldn't be invisible or covered by a cabinet. You could probably take the guts of a ventless hood and make what you want very easily....See MoreRecirculating vent
Comments (1)A "sanitary tee" is a specific kind of pipe fitting used where waste is involved (hence "sanitary") that allows one pipe to join in with a main run (a "T" shape). It is different than a "straight tee" in that the way it is shaped, flow down the main branch doesn't have as much of a tendency to flow into the branch....See MoreDoes a ductless hood need a duct/vent?
Comments (10)Don't expect the hood to draw its anticipated air flow rate if the recirculation exhaust is gagged by a small register. The total area of the register openings should at worst equal the total area of the baffle gaps if the hood uses baffles. (Even that is a significant obstruction -- pressure loss wise.) If the hood uses meshes, then some guess as to the effective area of the mesh should be used instead of baffle gap area.. I would recommend that with the hood system out of its wood cabinet, you observe the apparent flow out of the top with and without the candidate register in the path. The manufacturer should have provided information about what register size is appropriate....See MoreUnder the Cabinet Recirculating Range Hood
Comments (11)I don't know the layout of the guts of these models, but in general, thin (top-to-bottom) hoods may present uneven intake flow profiles. Whether this matters with Magic Lung type configurations is unclear. Lacking any needed information, I'd go for the pyramid hood style. But really, the guts matter, and it is possible to configure either to be less optimal than the other. In the garyvp thread https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2347276/vent-a-hood-ductless-ars-range-hood-update#n=65, all the images seem to be of the rectangular style, so the results reported there at least apply to that style....See Morejulieste
