Half Load and Sanitize options in Bosch 800 series dishwasher
Comments (2)I don't know about the sanitize option. Our Bosch DW, top of the line which we bought a little over a year ago doesn't have that feature (or if it does, I never paid attention to it). But we do have the top rack only option that we've used occasionally. It uses less water (and detergent), so you can wash a small load without being wasteful. You can also combine the top rack only option with the "Opti-Miser" option which reduced the total 2-hour cycle time by about 20 minutes. Overall, we nearly always just use the regular cycle with the Opti-Miser option, which does a staisfactory job. We don't even bother with the rinse agent, because we don't see the need for it. But that might depend on local water hardness issues. It's my impression that with the top of the line machines, you can combine several options so you can zero in on exactly what you want. Our DW does not have the Miele style of flatware tray. I do not know what advantage there is, if any, to stacking flatware horizontally, but I have read elsewhere on this forum that the Miele style of flatware stacking is problematic. Our Bosch comes with a flatware holder that can be taken apart into 2 identical holders. We use only one when we use the top only option. The holder also is fitted with a top that enables you to stack each piece of flatware into its own little slot. That top is attached to the holder by hinges, so you can easily disengage it to stack larger pieces of flatware that don't fit into the slots. I think you might be able to download the owner's manual of the diswaasher you're interested in as a pdf file either from the Bosch website or from one of the on-line appliance merchant websites....See MoreLoading Bosch dishwasher
Comments (7)In my unit, the lower rack has a row of very closely spaced tines which I use to house the plates, and a row of more sparsely spaced tines which is where I put in the salad or pasta bowls. I put my plates and flat lids etc. amongst the closely spaced tines and the bowls etc. in either the upper deck or amongst the sparser tines. In as far as my load is somewhat hybrid, I do make rows - rows of however many plates I have, rows of bowls, etc. I don't have to stagger things and it all comes out clean and dry....See MoreBosch dishwasher cycle timing screwed up
Comments (5)CME10AE: I think that for certain Bosch models--including yours--there is a "Smart Control" feature that senses soil levels and water temperature and adjusts the time for the loads. This is supposed to be an energy saving feature. See p.18 of your manual under "Wash Cycle Information." For our own Bosch d/w (different model) I had noticed that the load times would increase or decrease from time to time based on how heavy or light our recent loads had been. Also, if I turn the water heater down while away for vacation, when I come back I might not reset it to be exactly where it had been previously. The d/w times would then vary. So this is a long-winded way of suggesting that your d/w is probably fine. As for my Bosch d/w, it's finally given up the ghost after ~7 or 8 years. Comments (14)For me, the folding tines and loading options were significant. Serving pieces and parger bowls, mixing bowls typically need something to give to fit properly. I don't plan to use the water softener (might be a big deal if you have hard water though). and the interior light on the Benchmark (8 or 9, not on the 7) is not a big deal to me, but DH wanted the quietest possible. I needed a panel ready DW. Otherwise, I might have done the 800 series I saw at Best Buy, Lowes and elsewhere for $1079. It has most of the same features as a Benchmark in a stainless front. I don't know where you were shopping, but there are more models than any one place displays. I had to drive across town to find a Benchmark to look at, One place had nothing but a 500 series and a Thermador. Talk about a huge gap! Anyway, I think the 500 series is the right place to start looking and then go up if needed for the features you need....See Morejrb451
