How did I do on pricing for cabinets - KM, BH, shiloh???
Comments (8)It's really hard to say whether it was a deal or not because there are so many variables. Drawers add expense. Other inner do-dads add expense, etc. etc. Your room is slightly larger than mine (17 x 13) I could tell you how many linear feet (though no one ever talked to me in those terms) I had, but the fact that I had many modified depth items, a custom cabinet, all drawer bases except the sink (including the pantry), you just can't compare apples to apples. My biggest piece of advice is to compare pricing with ALL molding and other bits. I got a rough quote from Lowe's for KM. DH and I were a bit over them by the time we got the quote so we didn't pay close enough attention, so I don't know if it included molding or not. We ended up going with Innermost from HD. The KD initially quoted us just on the same boxes we'd been quoted by Lowe's. HD/Innermost was much lower, but didn't include any of the molding. She made come comment about it not including that but it being a few hundred dollars. Nope. It was MUCH more than that. So would it have end up being higher or lower than KM/Lowe's? Don't know. What matters is I got the cabinets that I liked most. And, despite a few little things, I liked my KD. Today is day 2 of my install. Yes, there are already things I wish I'd done slightly differently. Nothing that I truly regret. But the best thing is that I can still just stare at my Natural Cherry and marvel at its beauty. And i can play with my soft close doors and drawers and remember back to my rickety old cabinets. And I can dream about what I can put into all these spacious drawers. And I will always seek out my KD when I'm at HD and say hi and thanks....See MoreHomeCrest Cabinets vs Shiloh Cabinets
Comments (17)No, the drawers are not peeling inside. We have HomeCrest throughout the whole house. We also have them in the basement bathroom and have a kitchenette down there. A few months after installation, some of the kitchen drawers needed adjustments. It was done very quickly. My husband just pointed out that one of the 36" drawers is off a little bit, but I had not noticed it myself. The drawer holds pots and pans; so the weight probably caused a little bit of settling. We did not buy the cabinets directly from the factory. We used a small local cabinet company as the go between; so I cannot say how working with the factory is. I don't know if you can even buy factory direct or not. One mistake I made was having a corner sink because that was how the builder designed the kitchen. That row of cabinets is L shaped and there is a lot of wasted space in that 90 degree angle. In order to use it, I would have to literally crawl under the sink to reach things back there. All in all, we are happy with all of the cabinets. I do wish I had more. Seems there is never enough space in cabinets or closets after you're in a house for a few years. Good luck with your cabinet hunting....See MoreQuality of Shiloh Cabinetry vs. Homecrest Cabinets

Comments (12)There's a lot that can go into even a simple small space. This mudroom space isn't very big, but the modifications to the cabinets to get this look are numerous. Someone that doesn't work with cabinets every day, may not even know that some of these modifications are possible, much less how to indicate that you want that to happen. The cabinet on the lower left has the following modifications. 7 modifications, just on that one cabinet, and NOT including the overall cabinet Global attributes which include antiquing, distressing, glazing, and a specific finish on inset cabinets. Very upgraded choices to start with.. Each cabinet in the design has some modification except for the coat rack hooks. There isn't a standard unmodified cabinet in the bunch. This is only 5 cabinets, but this is 2 full pages of specifications. And each modification has to be double checked twice, by the person who is going to assemble, and the person ordering. If I forgot the FE-R, then the whole cabinet would be completely unusable in the design. I'd have to order it correctly again. If anyone want's to know what each of those ordering codes means, look at the design, and the fact that there is an outlet on the side there that needs room for the guts inside the cabinet, and the side of the cabinet has to be finished because it's exposed. The "feet" are specified in a particular way, because the cabinet is next to a wall on the left. Each side is specified differently because of that. And there's a power station inside the drawer, to charge phones, etc. Multiply these 5 cabinets by an entire kitchen. And you'll see what you need an expert KD to help you with this. But, by the time you pay for that help, and the assembly, It's doubtful that you will have saved much over choosing a good already assembled line would cost. This mudroom done in DuraSupreme, is 13K. It could be half of that without all of that antiquing and distressing. And it could be half that again in the least expensive door style in a full overlay instead of inset. That's the other thing that an experienced KD brings to the table. The knowledge of potential tradeoffs affect on the bottom line. These folks fell in love with a super distressed display, and they really wanted it. And they could afford it....See Morerocentner
